Shots now for worry-free sex later?

Roanoke Times, 8/28/06, Pg A 7: HPV vaccine brings matter of sex to the forefront.
Large comprehensive article with graphic of 14 year old girl and mom discussing how HPV shots given as early as 9 years old will help avoid HPV due to promiscuous sex "later".
-
Roanoke Times, 8/30/06, Pg A 9: Large article with Graphic of young girl getting a shot. Girls’ back-to-school checkup may be early for new (HPV) vaccine.
Early because its not available in volume and most insurance programs are not covering it.
-
Note: HPV is a common STD which older folks used to call a VD before that term became PC.
-
The Editors of the Roanoke Times have been on a steroid-strength frenzy publishing sex based articles the past several weeks!
The down-side is that they’re all focused on providing messages that the adverse consequences of promiscuous and unprotected sex can be simply fixed with pills and shots and the only problem is getting George Bush out of the way!
-
What a joy. First we had to explain to our children what Bill and Monica were doing. Then we had to explain what the Broke Back boys were doing. Now we’re explaining to 9 year old girls that they need a series of three shots so that when they get a little older and have promiscuous unprotected sex they will have a reduced chance of getting HPV.
-
For 50 years the liberals have been telling us how wonderful it is that sex is now so open and accessible and without guilt and free and available and how the sexual revolution was more important to our society and the welfare of our people than the industrial revolution. If it feels good – do it!
-
Perhaps all change is not positive! You think?

Sex and the High-risk VT Girl

Roanoke Times, 8/28/06, Pg Va 6: Editorial: Finally a Plan B; Politics kept women from gaining access to backup birth control
-
Roanoke Times, 8/29/06, Pg Va 7: Commentary by David Nova, president of Planned Parenthood of the Blue Ridge: Birth control v. delay, delay, delay.
-
This Editorial is a continuation of a prior editorial ( 8/6/06, Pg H2) that continues the message that George Bush wants to make it difficult for women to terminate their unplanned pregnancies by keeping "morning after pills" as prescriptions.
-
The Commentary by Mr. Nova describes how a VT student, on the first day of class, ran the gauntlet through police swat teams (who were searching the VT campus for the killer of two cops) to get to Mr. Nova to get "morning after pills"; all because George Bush withheld them from her by keeping them classified as "prescription drugs".
-
Let’s reflect: Here we have a young "sophisticated" woman, a student at one of the best Universities in Virginia, on the first day of class, racing around and through swat teams, looking for "over the counter" "morning after" birth control pills. Perhaps an unwanted pregnancy and the gauntlet of police are not this girls biggest risk factors.
Perhaps having her spend time with a doctor getting these pills via prescription might be a good thing that may save her quality of life and perhaps her life itself and may save some of the men she is intimate with.
-
The Doctor would certainly examine her and then spend time explaining to this girl the many risks of unprotected sex like: HPV, Herpes, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, Hepatitis, and HIV+Aids, most of which are epidemics and pandemics in our society today.
-
Perhaps VT should start each year with an orientation that focuses on these risks and teach these girls that one of the most important health and lifesaving things they can say is:
Go with Plan A: "If you forgot it, forget it"!
If you need Plan B: You may need a doctor a lot more than you need a pill!

Katrina & US Disasters

Roanoke Times, 8/28/06, Pg 1; 6A: Katrina: the long road to recovery
-
Roanoke Times, 8/29/06, Pg Va 6: Editorial: One year of failure after Katrina. The Gulf Coast continues to suffer thanks mostly to Bush administration’s shameful response to Hurricane Katrina.
-
It was difficult to find any positive redeeming value in either of these articles. The editors of the Roanoke Times are so rabidly anti-Bush that any mention of the positive results of the massive assistance that has poured into the Gulf Coast is totally and completely ignored.
-
Also ignored is the focus on the responsibilities of state and local governments to establish plans and designs and to implement programs to properly administer the hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars that have been allocated to them.
-
Totally also ignored was the responsibility for the plight of the 60,000 people who were abandoned by their state and local governments.
It’s as if the editors think that the federal government was responsible for the plight and fate of the passengers of the Titanic in the nighttime hours after Captain Stupid hit the iceberg with no radio backup, no red emergency flares, less than half the required life boats and then waited until the ship listed so far over that half of the life boats they did have couldn't be launched.
-
As a perspective, the following links represent some of the prior natural disasters that have devastated areas of the US. These disasters also resulted in great loss of life and property, dislocation of large numbers of people, and took not one or two but many years for recovery. George W. Bush was not yet around at the time, but I’m sure the RT Editors are convinced that he was responsible in some way!

Bomb Juan

Haven’t seen the Roanoke Times Editorial staff's views on Juan Williams’ new book or the left-wing attacks upon him.
-
Juan Williams, a black liberal journalist who worked for the Washington Post, has drawn intense liberal fire for his latest book "Enough".
His transgression is that he views many black cultural and economic issues in the same light Bill Cosby does and focuses on the importance of self-empowerment and personal responsibility.
-
Hopefully these gentlemen will encourage other enlightened folks to emerge and counter the failed views of the Jesse Jackson’s and the Al Twana Sharpton’s.
-
NPR Interviews Juan Williams’ on his new book: Enough
NPR (national public radio) Morning Edition 8/7/06
Many African-American leaders have lost touch with a hallmark of the civil rights movement -- the tradition of self-empowerment, Juan Williams says in his new book. Instead, they've embraced the notion of "victimhood," the NPR senior correspondent says.
His book is called Enough: The Phony Leaders, Dead-End Movements, and Culture of Failure That Are Undermining Black America -- and What We Can Do About It.

Still Stuck on Stupid in New Orleans

FoxNews: Mayor Nagin Takes Swipe at NYC Sept.11 Rebuilding
Friday , August 25, 2006
-
NEW YORK — New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin criticized efforts to redevelop the World Trade Center site when confronted in a television interview about delays in rebuilding his city after Hurricane Katrina.
-
During the "60 minutes" interview, a correspondent pointed out flood-damaged cars still on the streets of New Orleans' devastated Ninth Ward. Nagin replied, "You guys in New York can't get a hole in the ground fixed, and it's five years later. So let's be fair," according to CBS.

Let's hide the genocide

USA Today, 8/24/06, Pg 11A: Kurds describe chemical weapons attacks on villages during Sadam Hussein trial for genocide and crimes against humanity in which up to 180,000 Kurds were annihilated.
-
Couldn’t find any coverage about this in The Roanoke Times.
-
Isn’t it interesting that the left-wing media doesn’t cover or refer to the horrible details exposed in the Sadam trials.
They were all too eager to show/tell us all about the Milosevic Serb atrocities. Oh yes – that was because Bill dna Clinton was Commander-in-chief and we wanted to make sure we morally justified that military action.
-
Certainly wouldn’t want to do anything like that relative to Iraq!
Might cause someone to think that stopping Sadam’s gassing (WMD) of the Kurds was a good thing and that WMD’s were there and were used to kill lots of innocent civilian people.
-
This kind of coverage would certainly not be to Howard Dean’s liking, and making Howard happy is very important to the left-wing media.

Kyoto smog-holes

USA Today, 8/23/06, Pg 1: Unhealthy breaths: cities with most polluted air (micrograms per cubic meter)
-
177 Delhi India
159 Cairo
145 Calcutta India
139 Tianjin China
036 Los Angles (worst in US)
-
Guess which four are exempt from the Bill Clinton Kyoto treaty?
Right – the first four
-
That means that the Kyoto supporters (Clinton’s, Gore’s, et al) want the US to absorb the economic and political impacts of Kyoto while the other folks watch (or try to, through their smog).
-
Perhaps this is why the US Senate rejected Clinton’s treaty 99 to 0!

The Wiretap Judge - Continued

USA Today, 8/23/06, Pg 2A: Judge may have had conflict of interest.
Not found in the Roanoke Times
-
Judicial Watch reports that Judge Taylor, was a trustee and secretary for a foundation that has given $45,000 to the ACLU to support homosexual activities and programs.
-
http://www.roanokeslant.org/JudgeTaylor.jpg
-
The ACLU sought out Judge Taylor to "hear" the ACLU’s case that the interception of calls between suspected terrorists abroad with persons in the US to be unconstitutional.–The highlight of her learned legal opinion was that:"THERE ARE NO HEREDITARY KINGS IN AMERICA" and that these interceptions are unconstitutional.
-
Can one imagine how the editorial staff of the Roanoke Times would react if the roles were reversed and this was a right-wing operation!
-
This judge (small j) should be tried for this offense and if the allegations are valid, she should be disbarred for her unethical behavior.

Frenched Again

Roanoke Times, 8/22/06, Pg A10: No major European contributions for forces to Lebanon
-
The French government, idols of John Kerry and the left-wing Democrats jumped right into the Israeli-Lebanese cease-fire fray.
-
"We’re for an immediate cease-fire and when it happens we’ll not only provide troops to implement the UN resolutions, but we’ll lead the military effort."
-
Cease-fire happens.
French commitment, leadership and troops nowhere to be found.

Who's a racist?

Roanoke Times, 8/21/06, Pg Va 6: Editorial:
-
Section 1: Senator Allen's comments and flags border on racism.
-
Section 2: Comments by Andrew Young that "blacks have been ripped-off by Jews, Koreans and now Arabs".
-
So, Sen. Allen is borderline racist, but Andrew Young is just a real nice guy explaining why he’s not the greeter at WalMart anymore.
-
Do the Editor’s of the RT read their own stuff? Do they reflect on how hypocritical their stuff is or do they just go along with Howard Dean and friends.

Hypocritical left-wing media

Roanoke Times, 8/21/06, Pg Va 1: Gov. Kaine directs Virginia’s Climatologist to stop using the title "Virginia’s Climatologist".
-
Roanoke Times, 8/22/06, Pg Va 8: Editorial: Climatologist storm still hasn’t’ cleared.
" The state climatologist cannot serve two masters."
-
Yes indeed, serving MASTERS! That’s just what we need to reiterate here in Virginia! What a concept! If a Republican governor had done something like this the editorial staff at the RT would be going postal.
-
Prof. Patrick Michaels is a distinguished scientist and faculty member at VT. It is not unusual for state employees and university professors to have numerous projects funded by outside organizations. If the Governor and his associates don’t like Prof. Michaels opinions and conclusions perhaps they should challenge him with facts and not fiats.
-
The fact that the Governor doesn’t agree with Prof. Michaels views is understandable. The fact that he would trample on his FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS and his ACCADEMIC FREEDOM is obscene.
-
Instead of defending Prof. Michaels as they would do for any left-wing person, The Roanoke Times has chosen to follow their leaders direction that the Professor needs to be "REIGNED IN BY HIS MASTERS"! What an incredible pile of hypocritical heifer-dust!

Cuba and the Gulf Oil

After hundreds of square feet of Roanoke Times coverage of the oil shortage it is interesting that there is such limited coverage of the Cuban entry into the Gulf and our belated and half-hearted response.
-
Apparently the Sierra Club, Al Gore and their associates had difficulty explaining why the US couldn’t extend our Gulf oil exploration when 50 miles off Key West the Cubans, Indians, Chinese and others were setting up their rigs and locking-in their contracts with Cuba.
-
Apparently environmental concerns have drifted away and now the focus is on how much money the Gulf States can extort from the US companies.
-
Perhaps we might now even address the fact that we haven’t built an oil refinery in 30 years and more crude oil supply will not solve the end-user requirements.
-
How many nuclear plants started construction this year? Apparently we're not really serious about getting off the oil wagon!

The Wiretap Judge

USA Today, 8/18/06, Pg 8A
-
The ACLU and left-wing liberals went judge shopping to find someone (anyone) who would declare that the interception of calls between suspected terrorists abroad with persons in the US to be unconstitutional.
-
They found one: Click: ---- http://www.roanokeslant.org/JudgeTaylor.jpg
-
Her learned legal opinion that will surely be appealed upward highlights her view that:
"THERE ARE NO HEREDITARY KINGS IN AMERICA"
-
Not being a learned constitutional scholar or attorney, I was surprised that this was the highlight of her judicial pronouncement!
-
In reflecting on her appearance and her appointment by Jimmy Malaise Carter one might wonder just how deep into the left-wing barrel the ACLU had to dig to find a friendly kindred spirit with this level of judicial wisdom.
-
The results of the appeal process should be very interesting.

The Lamont Team

USA Today, 8/16/06, Pg 7A: Not found in the Roanoke Times
-
Ned Lamont is the victor over Sen. Lieberman in the Conn. Dem. Primary.
-
Apparently Lamont's campaign manager, Tom Swain, is a good match with his supporters like Al Twana Sharpton, Maxine Waters, Howard Dean, et all.
-
Swain was quoted as publicly saying that Waterbury is "where the forces of slime meet the forces of evil". Waterbury voted overwhelmingly for Lieberman.
-
These are the folks being supported by the editorial staff of the Roanoke Times!

Bill & Jimmy Did It Better

Roanoke Times, 8/16/06, Pg Va 6: Editorial: Those are fighting words, Mr. President!
-
What part of "The radical Muslims have declared war upon us and killed thousands of our people" ----- doesn’t The Editorial Staff of The Roanoke Times understand? ------Click: http://www.roanokeslant.org/Infamy/
-
Let’s reflect on the middle-east diplomacy that the Roanoke Times Editors’ really liked:
Jimmy Malaise Carter meets with Leader of Egypt and Israel.
Jimmy gets peace prize.
Egyptian leader gets killed
-
Bill DNA Clinton meets with Leader of Palestinians and Israel.
Bill gets Dayton peace prize.
Israeli leader gets killed
-
Middle-east peace still not at-hand (or even close)!
-
Does anyone see a pattern of outstanding successful diplomacy here?

The Editors don’t even get the message that they printed in Sunday’s
Roanoke Times, 8/13/06, Pg A 11: Article by Anne Gearan of AP that well articulates the connection between our support for Israel and the view of US by Arabs throughout the world.
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2006/08/israel-us-loose-big.html
-
It’s interesting that the left-wing media is much more concerned about gaining some Congressional Democrat seats than defending the US against those who have declared war upon us. Then again: life is all about choices!

Israel & US loose big

Roanoke Times, 8/15/06, Pg 1: Lebanese return home.
-
The new government of Israel tried to use a "limit our losses" approach to war and lost big! It took them 32 Days to the Litani River, 15 miles from the border!
In contrast, It took the US 21 Days to get from Kuwait to Baghdad!
Israel’s past glory of an 8-day war is now truly history.
-
The kiss-of-death was of course administered by the UN. The resolution does not even achieve the goal of disarming Hezbollah within Lebanon – which was the goal of the "old" 1559 Resolution. It now calls for the Lebanese army and some "yet to be defined and deployed" international troops to "demilitarize" the border area.
-
This includes the "international UN troops" who have been watching for months as the Hezbollah turned the Lebanese border area into another Siegfried Line in total violation of UN resolution 1559.
-
If the Lebanese army and the UN "observers/peacekeepers" had the means and the will to confront Hezbollah it has had ample time to do it as was required by the UN 1559 resolution.
-
-
Roanoke Times, 8/13/06, Pg A 11: US image suffers blow despite plan for peace; the Lebanon conflict has heightened anti-US sentiment in the Middle East. Article by Anne Gearan of AP.
-
This is one of the very few national news articles that relates Arab anti-US sentiment to the US support of Israel. As a national bipartisan policy we always have taken the stance that the Arab’s don’t like us because of our beliefs, way-of-life and culture.
This author (Ms Gearan) has figured out that the Arabs have watched as the US gave Israel 9 (nine) Billion dollars a year in aid and all the guns, ammunition, rockets and planes that they want.
And when these assets are used the way they were just used in Lebanon, Arabs connect-the-dots and conclude that Israel is not just a thorn in their side but is also a US surrogate in a conflict designed to "keep them down".
Changing this perception will take a lot more that a PR campaign or some diplomatic tripping and touring.
-
Hezbollah is clearly a key part of the war that has been launched against us. Their success in Lebanon and in this conflict will have serious adverse consequences for us.

Civil Rights Abuse

Roanoke Times, 8/13/06, Pg A3: British officials say threat not eliminated.
They are examining internet café data and tracking web based emails and instant messages and are interrogating 24+ persons for up to 28 days without charges.
-
Where are the left-wing Democrats, left-wing media and the ACLU? They need to get over to England and put a stop to this gross violation of these peoples’ civil rights!
-
Isn’t it interesting that the British have MI5 (an internal domestic CIA) and lots more options and tools to fight terrorism than the US has.
-
And what’s this 28 days of interrogation without charges or lawyers? Sure hope they aren’t being treated unkindly or hostile or mean or keeping these folks up at night or bombarding them with noise or any of the unpleasant stuff the Gitmo folks are being exposed to. Wouldn’t want to be unpleasant to folks planning to blowup 10 planes with over 2000 Americans onboard!
-
Perhaps after fighting IRA terrorists for over 50 years the British have determined that being killed or injured is the biggest civil rights abuse of all.
-
Using the Bill & Hillary Clinton process – wait for the explosion and then send in the CSI forensics team really isn’t the best option.

-

Correction: Lion King wounded, not dead

Roanoke Times, 8/11/06, Pg A5: Lieberman uses terrorist arrests to attack rival, files petitions to run as an independent.

-
It appears that The Lion King is wounded but not dead!
He is up and about and clawing and snarling at his adversaries.
He also appears to be following the path of Connecticut US Senator Lowell Weicker who served Connecticut as an Independent. Turns out Connecticut has more Independents than the other parties combined.

Hyenas Kill the Lion King

Roanoke Times, 8/9/06, Pg A6: Lieberman fights for survival
-
As dawn approached the pack of hyenas gathered around the carcass. There were: Howard Dean, Al Twana Sharpton, Maxine Waters, Michael Moore, Jesse Jackson and many of their radical hate-message associates.
-
The lion king who had served the liberal wing of the Democrat party so well and for so long was down and out and now it was time to consume the carcass and enjoy the feast.
-

Plan B and the FDA

Roanoke Times, 8/6/06, Pg H2: Editorial: FDA needs a scientist, not another politician. FDA should approve "PLAN B" for over-the-counter availability.
-
Plan B – isn’t that RU486? Apparently not exactly. The RT Editor informs me that the chemical ingredients of Plan B are not same as RU486. The purpose and intent as "morning after" pills are the same. http://www.go2planb.com/ForConsumers/Index.aspx
-
The unintended consequences of RU4876 include little side-effects like death!
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2006/03/ru-486-deaths.html
It's not clear to me what all the side-effects for Plan-B include.
-
However, the biggest unintended consequence of "the morning-after pill" is the encouragement of non-safe-sex! The introduction of "the birth control pill" has resulted in an explosion (pandemic) of STD’s including HIV+AIDS.
-
We still have an incredibly high percentage of unprotected sexual encounters resulting in many sad and tragic results. Having the morning-after pill will surely have a negative impact on safe-sex practices.
-
Perhaps the head of the FDA should look for what’s best for "the public health" of our people and our children and not just what Hillary and NOW want.
-
Why isn’t continued dispensing of "morning after pills" as a prescription OK? Haven’t heard Hillary and NOW pushing for over-the-counter Viagra!

Deficits

Roanoke Times, 8/6/06, Pg A19: Federal deficit will be lowest in 4 years. Better than expected revenues (caused by the Bush tax cuts) are driving the deficit down. -
Roanoke Times, 8/5/06, Pg Va7: Editorial: Analysis reveals the federal budget deficit is a lot worse than published. Particularly when the Medicare and Social Security Mandates are included. In fact, including these factors, the deficit was much LARGER during Bill and Hillary’s tour of duty!
-
Editors proposal: So now while Bush is in office let’s start showing the much larger number because this is an election year and it’s really important to make the deficit a major political issue.
-
Yes indeed, the deficits published for many years do not include major future requirements that should be addressed NOW.
-
And who made a major effort to address this national major challenge: BUSH
-
And who boycotted and stonewalled and ridiculed this effort: THE DEMOCRATS.

Roanoke Times,8/6/06, Pg A17: In NYC "the epicenter of AIDS in the US", 30% of the 100,000 people with HIV are over 50 years old.
-
Yet another Roanoke Times and AP article on HIV+AIDS that refuses to discuss the key basic issues of this pandemic.
Particularly striking is NY, where the most egregious malfeasance of duty was enacted by Gov. Cuomo and Mayor Koch. Click for details:

-
How many people will have to die after a protracted illness before the government and media join to address the required laws, processes and procedures to address this pandemic?
-
This is the most dangerous concealed weapon in the world!

Pres. Bush at NAACP

Roanoke Times, 7/21/06, Pg A3: Bush talks at NAACP convention
Roanoke Times, 8/2/06, Pg Va 9: Bush, blacks and estate taxes
-
Pres. Bush did indeed address the NAACP convention and gave one of his best speeches. It was focused on actions and accomplishments that benefit ALL Americans. It focused on his beliefs, not on what Al Twana Sharpton says is his beliefs.
The speech was well received, and the President asked Mr. Bond to allow several hecklers to continue to demonstrate their disrespect during his address.
-
The speech was so good that the only items covered by the left-wing press were his acknowledgement that Republicans have not politically embraced black voters.

One War - Two Fronts - Two Stories

Roanoke Times, 8/2/06, Pg A5: Israel: Lebanon Baalbek Hospital raid delivers Hezbollah captives.
-
All the major media are having a very difficult task. How to provide major support to Israel’s war with Hezbollah while lamenting the US (Bush) war in Iraq.
Let’s not compare Israel casualties with Lebanese casualties. Let’s not compare Israel casualties with the 3,000 Americans killed on 9/11! Let’s not focus on the destruction by Israel’s US supplied bombs and missiles. Let’s not demonstrate just because the Israeli government has not provided a clear plan and has no exit strategy and has no UN mandate or international coalition.
-
Clearly this is a proxy war with Hezbollah representing those who have declared and waged war upon us. It is a second front in one war. But how can we spin this so that we are supporting Israel on the one front while giving aid and comfort to the enemy on the Iraq front in order to win Democrat seats in the election this fall?
-
This is hard, even for experienced spin-meisters! Just reflect on the challenges faced by NY Dem. Sen. Chuck (shoot Bush in the head) Schumer.

-
We now also have major pro-Israel advertising on TV:

-
Haven’t seen these groups running ads to support the US in this SAME WAR!
-
So much for being fair and balanced and supportive of our country in this time of war.
