Gov Cuomo has been ranting about not enough ventilators for NY.
Clearly NY needs lots more ventilators now and the federal government has missioned multiple businesses to work 24-7 to increase the production, hopefully in time for those in dire need.

Cuomo warned Thursday that the state’s supply of breathing machines could be
exhausted in six days. The number of New Yorkers killed by COVID-19 soared
again, to 2,373.

Gov Cuomo has been ranting about not enough ventilators for NY.
Clearly NY needs lots more ventilators now and the federal government has missioned multiple businesses to work 24-7 to increase the production, hopefully in time for those in dire need.
It’s a fair
question to ask why the state and federal governments have not stock-piled more
ventilators given their critical importance and lead-time to procure.
Every state
has a CON committee that decides what every hospital in that state is
authorized to procure. Clearly that
process did not anticipate the needs of this pandemic.

clear that NY D Gov Cuomo did not anticipate these requirements back in 2015
(before Trump) and made decisions to spend money elsewhere.

Billion’ Instead
“In 2015
(before Trump), New York’s
Democrat Gov. Andrew Cuomo was faced with a decision: purchase a recommended
16,000 ventilators to add to the state’s pandemic preparation stockpile, or
spend the millions elsewhere. Cuomo chose to go the latter route, commissioning
a task force led by his health commissioner, Howard Zucker, to come up with a
rationing plan for using the state’s existing ventilators should a pandemic
scenario ever become reality. In other words, create a death panel that will
determine who gets the state’s limited number of ventilators.
Furthermore,
instead of spending $576 million on 16,000 ventilators, Cuomo elected to waste
$750 million of the state’s budget on a solar-panel boondoggle known as the
Buffalo Billion.”
