The
Hospital Ship Comfort sailed into NY Harbor Monday March 30th.
Watching
the entry was both a Patriotic and Humanitarian experience.
USNS Hospital Ship Comfort Enters NY Harbor
-
Major
efforts were made to expedite getting the ship out of maintenance at Norfolk and out to sea fully
loaded with medical materials and personnel.
-
Not visible
or highlighted was the preparation in NY Harbor at the Pier location.
That pier-slip
had to be dredged out deeper in order for the Comfort to enter and dock.
-
Imagine the
non-expedited process to do that in the NY Harbor Hudson River!
How many
agencies would be required to “Approve” such an action and then what would be
the “TimeLine” for Approval and then what would be the time to “Execute” with
an army of auditors and checkers and kibitzers?
-
What would have
happen with this project with ‘Business as Usual’ in the NY Hudson River
Harbor. Just for starters:
EPA
Corps of
Engineers
NY Dept of
Environment
NY Port
Authority
NYC
Construction Permits
Multiple
Union Contracts
Competitive
Bid Contracts
-
All this bureaucracy
was compressed from many, many months to One Week!
So, if
there’s no harm or significant down-side to blowing through all this
bureaucracy – then why do we have or need all this bureaucracy?
What are
the minimum required controls?
-
One might
reflect on what a fiasco the so called $72-Million Roanoke
River Flood Control project has been. A total failure for the taxpayers, the people
of Roanoke and
the environment with yearly destructive flooding.
-
Also
reflect on the anti-MVP Pipeline obstruction and it’s negative impacts to all
concerned especially the landowners whose properties continue to be major
construction and disruption zones instead of a graded, seeded and stable greenway.
