Should McGuire persevere, Perhaps he shouldn’t quit his day-job (whatever that is) or buy a house in DC, based on how quickly prior 5th Dist Congressman Denver Riggleman was replaced after he fell out of party favor over gay-marriage; however, that was under the old local convention rules with only 2500 votes cast compared to 62,000 now cast.

F ormer President Donald Trump‘s attacks on Rep. Bob Good, R-5th, including an election eve tele-rally saying the conservative Congressman stabbed him in the back, gave state Sen. John McGuire, R-Goochland, the push he needed to eke out what’s now a tiny lead, political scientists say.
In a way, the question of Trump’s influence comes down to 5th District voters’ strong feelings about Washington, government officials and outsiders telling them what to do.
“It’s useful to recognize that for many MAGA voters, Trump’s appeal is his willingness to stick it to the establishment,” McGlennon said.”
