Deputy Shot And Killed – “Turn-em-loose” Judge Responsible

A Patrick County judge released a violent felon out on the community who served just 8-months of a 41-YEAR sentence.
The felon shot and killed a deputy and wounded a second deputy.
The judge should be charged with aiding and abetting a known felon in the commission of a capital felony and sentenced to serving out the felons 41-Year term.

Michael Puckett Puckett, with a criminal history in Patrick County is the subject of an intensive multi-agency manhunt after authorities say he fatally shot a Carroll County sheriff's deputy and wounded another deputy during a welfare check Friday night.
Sheriff Kevin Kemp said two deputies arrived at the home and made contact with Puckett. During the encounter, authorities said Puckett opened fire on the deputies, who returned fire. Both deputies were struck by gunfire.
One deputy, later identified as Deputy Logan Utt, died from his injuries. Utt, a military veteran, joined the Carroll County Sheriff's Office in 2023, according to the department.
The second deputy was struck in his ballistic vest and was reported to be in stable condition

According to records in the Virginia Judiciary Online Case Information System, Puckett was convicted in Patrick County Circuit Court in 2016 on seven counts involving weapons and explosives offenses. Those convictions included possession of explosive materials, altering the serial number on a firearm, and possession of a sawed-off shotgun. He ultimately served eight months in jail before the remainder of his 41-year sentence was suspended.
More recently, Puckett was arrested in Patrick County on June 2, 2025, and charged with possession of an explosive by a convicted felon, manufacturing a fire bomb, and arson.
