“Data centers are physical facilities that house computer systems and networking infrastructure like servers, storage drives, and routers. They are used to store, process, and share large amounts of digital information for apps, websites, and artificial intelligence.”
-
-
“People are protesting against data centers primarily due to concerns over massive electricity and water consumption, rising utility bills, and constant noise pollution. These large-scale facilities have also become a lightning rod for broader public anxieties regarding the rapid, unvetted expansion of artificial intelligence”

To Data Center, Or Not To Data Center That Is The Question
“Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles
And by opposing end them.”

The new mega data centers are a new phenomenon in the US and have become a major element of conflict.
To the average and so far, uninformed citizen, it’s an unknown, scary entity that smacks of a star-war’s thing that is huge in size and cost and intrusion into community environment, culture and jobs.
They have been designated by the Federal Government as a national critical resource, part of the supremacy race with China et al; some might relate it to the nuclear bomb race of 1944.
Some think that IF they can stop development of these data centers, their jobs and communities will be safe --- of course that flies in the face of the adverse consequences of China superiority and dominance in that critical space.
The likely outcome of this conflict will be federal control and dominion of the siting and permitting process with minimum local-control.

FoxNews:
The war on data centers jeopardizes our economy and national security
At least 78 local jurisdictions already have imposed data center bans or moratoriums
https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/war-data-centers-jeopardizes-economy-national-security
Imagine if during World War II, protesters had gathered outside factories making tanks and planes, and tried to shut them down. Or that just before Pearl Harbor, when American industry was "hyperscaling" its defense infrastructure in order to make the country ready for war, cities and counties had placed restrictions on new plant and shipyard openings and tried to dictate what could be produced where — as long as it wasn’t near them.
Any commonsense observer in 1940-1941 would know the only beneficiaries of these obstructionist tactics were our nation’s enemies.

Secrecy in government contract negotiations involves restricting public and competitor access to proposals, pricing data, and terms prior to a final award. Governments use this confidentiality to protect trade secrets, prevent unfair competitive advantage, and encourage meaningful vendor discussions. However, critics argue this lack of transparency hides the misuse of public funds.

The harsh adverse response to the County Board exploring the potential Franklin County Data Center opportunities and tax-relief available to the community appears inappropriate and Orwellian.
