In 2014 (10-years ago) SF public schools removed middle school algebra in the name of equity and performance improvement. Since then...
"Overall, eighth-grade math proficiency in the district has fallen from 51 percent to 40 percent, according to the board. Proficiency among black students fell from 11 percent to 4 percent."
(but most know what a kilo is)

They recently voted to reinstate it, but that will take three years to implement.
And is dependent upon finding teachers qualified to teach algebra!
