Roanoke’s Absurd Endangered Species Act

-
Absurd: wildly unreasonable, illogical, or inappropriate.
-
Roanoke log perch no longer an endangered species,
The Roanoke log perch, an endangered species that lives in the path of major projects such as the Mountain Valley Pipeline and a Roanoke flood control plan, is no longer at risk of extinction.

Roanoke SnailDarter was also removed from the Endangered Species Act in 2021.

No longer endangered! They served their ‘obstructionist’ purpose of making major disruptions to dams and flood-control projects and now that they’re no longer an issue, the little fish are doing just fine on their own! Amazing!
-
The Corps of Engineers set out to perform flood control on the Roanoke River adjacent to Roanoke. Upon starting the project the EPA demanded that the river bottom Not be dredged deeper to accommodate flood waters because of two cute little endangered fish.
The result was $72-Million dollars of river bank beautification and ongoing tens of millions of additional dollars of buying flooded homes and businesses and relocation of residents.
-
But NOW the cute little endangered fish aren’t endangered anymore and all this cost and ongoing never ending flooding disruption was all in vain! Who knew?
-
Would be appropriate for the Roanoke Times staff to hold a party for all those associated with this disruptive fiasco so that the residents of Roanoke can thank them personally for their good works.
-
Really? – Flood Reduction — that’s what ‘they’ like to say now!
The reality is that this major $72-Million dollar Corps of Engineers ‘flood control’ project became a ‘river bank beautification’ project because the river bottom was ‘off-limits’ due to the Log-Perch and the Snail-Darters alleged to reside there.
-
Therefore the river was Not Dredged down to improve the volume, velocity and thru-put of the flood waters and therefore it continues to back-up into the same low-lying areas it has always done since it was known as Big Lick. So much for $72+++Million of taxpayer money and no relief for the Roanoke people!
