Obama - Commander-of-Unilateral Disarmament & Retreat
Click the youtube link for the most amazing declaration of defeatism that has ever been proposed by a major party candidate for President of the USA
-
It is difficult to comprehend what Democrat Caucus group he was addressing and how he could have been somewhere where the American flag was on display.
-
Two quotes come to mind:
-
1. I never learned to fright for freedom. I was too busy enjoying it to bother.
-
2. Those who beat their swords into plows, will plow for those who didn’t.

Rick Horowiz - wetland developer
Roanoke Times, 6/26/08, Pg Va 9: Commentary: Rick Horowitz. The flood last time- and still.
Rick laments about the state of neglect in the New Orleans lower 9th ward post Katrina.
-
Wake-up Rick! The lower 9th ward was a wetland since Thomas Jefferson bought it from Napoleon in 1803. It should never have been developed for housing. It is and should be what it is: a wetland! Clearly taxpayer money should be, and has been, focused on property that meets basic development criteria.
-
By the way Rick, if you think that the 9th ward wetland is such a nice place, why don't you buy a hundred acres as an investment?

Teachers short on math
Roanoke Times, 6/26/08, Pg A3: Elementary school teachers are poorly prepared by education schools to teach math, finds a study by the National Council on Teacher Quality.
-
That's not the bad news. The bad news is that this council found the programs, within colleges and universities, spend too little time on elementary math topics.
-
Elementary math topics. Is that what these council wizards think universities should be focused on at $20,000 per student per year?
-
Taxpayers are spending well over $100,000 per graduating high school student. Perhaps having every graduating student proficient in algebra should not be too much to ask for that amount of taxpayer investment.
-
Perhaps non-math teachers should be "sitting-in" and "auditing" math classes with the students. Also, let's put the calculators away and learn our tables and fractions and basic functions. Punching keys we don't understand is not education!

EXXON GETS OFF FREE
Roanoke Times, 6/26/08, Pg 1 & 6: Court slashes punitive award in Exxon oil spill. Supreme court cut punitive damages from $2.5 Billion to $500 million.
-
What a great example of AP and RT slant.
What is totally smoked-over is that those who had losses were paid over $500 million by Exxon!
This is not about peoples losses! This is about punitive damages, ie: let's sock it to them because they're big and rich! Let's not talk about the fact that the company had a professional and licensed crew in charge of the tanker. Let's not talk about the coast guard controllers who were responsible for radar-guiding and directing the tanker safely out of the harbor. Let's not talk about the drug and alcohol tests these coast guard controllers failed after the accident.
Let's just spread more heifer-dust from your left-wing news outlets as part of their anti-business crusade.

Tim Russert was a professional
After reflecting on the many articles and programs praising Tim Russert since his death, one might wonder what other ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, NY Times, Washington Post, and Roanoke Times personalities measure up to Tim’s performance.
-
Tim was a rank Democrat! He worked for years for Senior Dem NY Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan and then for Dem Gov. Mario Cuomo. He was firmly planted in the Democrat briar-patch during his formative and developing years.
-
However, when conducting his duties as a reporter and moderator, he showed great restraint and was clearly different than the bias and slant used by most of the left-wing media. He made a real effort to present and deliver the news, not be the news.
-
He also abstained from using “flaming” catch words and phrases so common in the lexicon of the major media. Instead he focused on significant specific statements made by targets and then let them explain their positions or changes in positions. He made a real and visible effort to treat all his targets fairly.
-
Perhaps the “bobbling heads” of the major media should reflect on all the praises and accolades being laid at Tim’s feet and ask the simple question: “how will people reflect on my passing”?
-
The following blog item clearly reflects a major difference between the performance of the editorial board of the Roanoke Times and Mr. Russert.
-
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2008/06/unprofessional-roanoke-times-editorial.html-
That blog item concludes:
We do not need guidance or direction or advice from a team of people who are not willing to address the facts, develop plans for their own improvement, are unwilling to standup for what they say they support and who in their final act of frustration must resort to name-calling.

Democrats for Homeland Insecurity
The Supreme Court on Monday June 23, 2008 turned down a plea to NOT waive laws and regulations in order to speed construction of a fence along the U.S.-Mexican border.
-
Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff has used authority given to him by Congress in 2005 to move forward with hundreds of miles of fencing in Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas without doing an in-depth environmental impact assessment.
Congress authorized in 1996 and 2005 laws that cut through bureaucratic red tape and sidestep environmental laws that currently stand in the way of fence construction.
-
The case rejected by the court involved a two-mile section of fence in the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area near Naco, Ariz. The section has since been built.
-
"
I am extremely disappointed in the court's decision," Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., said. "This waiver will only prolong the department from addressing the real issue: their lack of a comprehensive border security plan."
-
Thompson chairs the House Homeland Security Committee. He and 13 other House democrats — including six other committee chairs — filed a brief in support of the appeal.-Isn’t it comforting to know that the new Democrat majority in Congress are vigilant in defense of our border security and immigration laws? What a bunch of pathetic losers!

Boogeyman drilling for oil near Florida
Roanoke Times, 6/21/08, Pg Va 7: Editorial: Give the China boogeyman a rest. E. Strother proudly writes that VP Cheney is wrong – China is not NOW drilling for oil 60 miles off Florida.
-
Cuba's state oil company, Cupet, has issued exploration contracts to companies from China, India, Canada, Spain, Malaysia and Norway, according to Western diplomats.
Oil companies from these countries are now “exploring” for oil within 60 miles from Florida.
-
I wonder what they’ll do when the first drill hits oil? They’ll probably call Ms. Strother at the Roanoke Times and ask her if it’s OK to start production-runs or just cap the hole and go home.
-
Talk about dull! Cuba has let the contracts! Foreign oil units from other countries, including China, are at our doorstep! We’re exporting massive amounts of our money for massive amounts of imported oil and Ms. Strother is mincing words about at what point in the very near future exploration holes becomes production holes.
-
The left-wing obstruction of domestic energy development of oil, natural gas and nuclear power is obscene and it appears that the average citizen now understands those facts!
-
How many kilowatts and BTU’s have Ms. Strother and her friends and associates developed and delivered to the marketplace to accommodate the two million additional people added to our population each and every year since 1945?

Global Warming Mis&DisInformation
Roanoke Times, 6/8/08, Pg A10, Leaders in Congress fume. Senate Democratic leaders couldn’t overcome Republican opponents who managed to block the carbon-trading bill.
-
This RT/AP story is beyond slant! Nowhere in the article does it state that the Senate vote was 48 to 36-against. This is the new Democrat Senate! They have a majority! The issue isn’t 60 votes -- they couldn’t get 51 votes to pass the bill! What a sad sack of losers and then to publish this slant about the outcome is disgusting!
-
The management of carbon limits for all our hydrocarbon fueled systems and the associated payment and credit systems will produce the biggest socialistic bureaucratic system ever seen in the world outside the old Soviet Union, and with minimal payback to our society or our standard of living. This program would not generate a single additional BTU or Kilowatt but instead increases the expenses and burdens and costs of our current over-burdened energy systems that are being held hostage by our new improved Democrat Congress.

Unprofessional Roanoke Times Editorial Staff
Roanoke Times, 6/2/08, Pg Va 6: Editorial: Give consumers a green power choice.
-
In their effort to promote green energy the RT Editorial Team found it necessary to disparage those who do NOT subscribe to the hypothesis that our current global warming cycle is caused by man-made CO2.
-
Their unprofessional and childish-bulling name-calling included: “only the worst industry hacks and political apologists – ect”
-
Perhaps these RT people should click-on the link that their parents should have consulted:
http://www.parenting-advice.net/forum/advice/89-name_calling-0.html-
Instead of resorting to immature and ignorant name-calling the RT editorial team should be addressing the basic facts of our current 250 year natural warming cycle:
-
1. The current 250 year natural global warming started in 1750, at the end of the little ice age.
http://www.roanokeslant.org/GlobalWarmingThoughts/NaturalGlobalWarming.htm-
2. There was 200 years of natural global warming before any significant man-made CO2:
http://www.roanokeslant.org/GlobalWarmingThoughts/GlobalCO2.jpg-
3. The NASA published data clearly states that there is one (1) degree of warming during the last 100 years, that there was significant cooling during the 30 years (1940 – 1975) and that there has been no warming during the last 10 years in spite of increased atmospheric CO2.
http://www.roanokeslant.org/GlobalWarmingThoughts/GlobalTemp1880-1998-2008.jpg-
4. There are over 30,000 signatures of scientists and engineers who have signed a petition stating that they do NOT subscribe to the hypothesis that man-made CO2 is causing global warming.
That’s a lot of highly educated “hacks and apologists” that certainly have infinitely more intellectual horsepower than the RT Editorial Staff and all their staff and supporters. Perhaps that’s why they feel the need to resort to name-calling.
http://www.petitionproject.org/index.html-
5. It’s also interesting that the RT Editors are prime supports of Senator Reid and Congressperson Pelosi who’s only misguided attempt to solve our energy issues is to mandate burning our food in our vehicles.
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2008/02/ethanol-burning-our-food.html-
6. It’s also interesting that the RT Editors represent a large manufacturing organization that has a huge carbon-footprint that they refuse to acknowledge or document or quantify or improve.
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2006/12/why-isnt-roanoke-times-turning-green.html-
7. The RT Editors have also saw fit to avoid taking a positive proactive position in support of any development of clean or green or independent energy including the only application for a wind-farm in Virginia. How incredibly hypocritical is that!
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2007/09/virginia-wind-farm-someday.html-
We do not need guidance or direction or advice from a team of people who are not willing to address the facts, develop plans for their own improvement, are unwilling to standup for what they say they support and who in their final act of frustration must resort to name-calling.
