Pravda Media Hypes John Kerry Yet Another AGW Global Warming Buffoon

-
John Kerry proclaimed in an Aug. 31, 2009, op-ed in the Huffington Post, that the Arctic would be “Ice Free” by summer 2013.
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2009/sep/02/john-kerry/kerry-claims-arctic-will-be-ice-free-2013/
-
Kerry in ’09: Ice-Free Arctic by Summer 2013
Despite all the doomsday predictions, global warming just isn’t living up to the hype. The newest item in the list of predictions that simply didn’t pan out: John Kerry’s 2009 claim that we would have an ice-free Arctic come 2013.
http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/362354/kerry-09-ice-free-arctic-summer-2013-alec-torres#!
-
Was the Arctic Ice-Free in the summer of 2013?
Not only NO but the ice sheet grew by One-Million Square Miles
That’s 50% larger than Alaska our largest state.
Just more Al Gore and Mike Mann Heifer-Dust being broadcast and propagated by the Pravda Press as truth & facts!
What If The Arctic Ice Sheet Grew By One-Million Square Miles And No One Told Us?

-
At what point are these apoplectic draconian scare pronouncements not just wrong but straight out lies with a misdirected energy agenda driving them?
The great tragedy of Science — the slaying of a beautiful hypothesis by an ugly fact. Thomas Huxley 1860
-
The facts are That:
*  There has been no Global Warming caused by mankind or nature for the past 17 years.
*  There has been less than one degree warming in the past 150 years coming out of the Little Ice Age.
*  Nature is the source of most of the atmospheric CO2 and has been the source for millions of years.
*  The climate is changing – the climate has always been changing -- which one would you like?
*  The Gore Inconvenient truth was based on Mann’s Hockey-stick that has been totally falsified by Mother Nature.

What If The Antarctic Gained 2 Million Square Miles Of Ice And The Roanoke Times Didn’t Tell Us?
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2014/07/what-if-antarctic-gained-2-million.html
Alaska is approximately 1/2 Million Square Miles
Texas is approximately 1/4 Million Square Miles
So the 2 Million Square Miles of ADDITIONAL ICE is
4 times the size of Alaska
8 times the size of Texas
That’s a lot of ICE --- Where’s the Global Warming?

EPA Outlandish Claims Go Unchallenged

-
Roanoke Times, 7-29-2014, Pg 1, 12:  EPA rules help Roanoke, advocates say.  People with health problems will benefit from the agency’s new standards for pollution, supporters said at a forum.
-
The Roanoke Times is so fair and balanced; NOT!  The RT loves to challenge “some of those” who submit LTE’s, requiring them to submit sources for comments made in their LTE and then rejecting those they don’t agree with.  Yet they gleefully publish all kinds of outlandish claims made by those they mentor and support as is evidenced in this article.
-
This article is full of totally unsupported and exaggerated statements about how reducing CO2 from coal-sourced utility electricity generation will help to solve health issues of thousands of  Roanokers suffering from asthma, cardiovascular and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Nowhere in the article does it show how CO2 relates to any of these issues.  Actually all these people are breathing out CO2 in much greater concentrations than exist in the air in Roanoke.
-
Also not mentioned is the major increase in energy costs associated with killing coal-based utility electricity generation (which is the real reason for these Obama-EPA actions)!
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2014/07/perspective-on-carbon-restrictions.html
Germany and Denmark have made reducing coal a priority and their electricity prices have been driven to 36 cents and 40 cents per kWh, respectively. In comparison, AEP charges less than 13 cents per kWh.
Wonder how the RT is going to handle a 3X (three-times) increase in their electric bill?  Oh yes – they will just raise their prices until they don’t have a survivable circulation!  Something about chickens coming home to roost!
-
Roanoke does indeed have air-quality issues based on having a concentration of population in a major depressed topology surrounded by mountains.  It is particularly unacceptable during times of inversion when smog stays near the ground.
-
Apparently, the political and economic leaders of Roanoke are not too worried about Roanoke’s air quality since they all are clamoring to get I-73 routed right through downtown Roanoke!  What a gas!

LTE: Ed Gillespie You Made Us Proud

Letter To The Editor

The July 26th debate between Ed Gillespie and Mark Warner went very well for Ed Gillespie!  Warner struggled mightily to distance himself from Obama; however, it is very difficult for conjoined twins to do so; only the voters can make that happen in November.

The good news is that Warner doesn’t always vote; the bad news is that he votes 97% of the time with Obama’s choices.  Warner shares a major flaw with Obama, it is not what they say; it is what they do and how they vote, that is the problem!

Ed Gillespie showed himself to be totally up-to-speed on all the major issues facing Virginia and America both domestically and internationally.  Ed Gillespie has solid proposals to guide us back to financial accountability, development of private sector jobs, promote personal responsibility, and ensure government compliance with the Constitution of the U.S.

Ed Gillespie will confront this administration’s misdirected and harmful policies of centralized government control of our lives, our healthcare, our economy, our energy systems and the wanton taking of private property.

Ed Gillespie will promote actions that will empower our businesses and our people to be all they can be!

Three years ago there was an opportunity to provide meaningful support to those who were fighting to remove Assad from Syria and stablize the area.  Obama chose NOT to do that.

-
Obama's removal of Gaddafi from Libya has not resulted in success. It now appears that Libya has joined Syria in becoming a cauldron of Radical Muslim Terrorists who have now poured out of Syria and into Iraq as the ISIS Army, where they have taken over a large part of that county and two major cities.

There’s No “Challenger” On The Ballot

-
New Good News 7-26 PM:
We are proud of Ed's performance in the first debate with Mark Warner
It's now clear why Warner hasn't agreed to anymore debates
And it's clear why the Roanoke Times called Ed Gillespie "The Challenger"

Roanoke Times, 7-25-2014, Pg 14: Very LARGE BOLD print heading
Poll: Warner has huge lead over “Republican challenger”
-
7-26-2014, Pg 11: Heading:  What the first (Va Senate Race) poll tells us
Fine Print:   “Gillespie is going to need to become a lot better known”
-
Yes, Gillespie needs to get much more “name recognition”!
Perhaps the RT in their 7-25 article could have been more fair and balanced by calling him GILLESPIE instead of “Republican challenger”!
You think?
How can I minimize and marginalize you?  Let me count the ways!
-
The good news is that Warner doesn’t always vote; the bad news is that he votes 97% of the time with Obama’s choices. Warner shares a major flaw with Obama, it is not what they say; it is what they do and how they vote, that is the problem!

Perhaps the following graphic will become more visible to more voters and result in significant realistic-publicity for Mark Warner:

Unfortunately Warner shares a major flaw with Obama:
It’s not what they say – It’s what they do and how they vote that’s the problem

July 20th Blog Item:  Major Schadenfreude At The Roanoke Times
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2014/07/major-schadenfreude-at-roanoke-times.html
It would be reasonable and prudent if now the Roanoke Times publishes a detailed account of all the gifts and donors of gifts received by former governors Kaine and Warner. Just the gifts to fund their inaugurations would be a good place to start. We then can reflect on their activities in office and determine for ourselves what quid pro quo’s have been overlooked on their behalf.
Not that three wrongs make a right – but being fair and balanced would be a nice touch!

One of the best articles I’ve read that crisply, logically, and humanely summarizes the case for careful consideration of the alternatives to jumping into the Massive Medicaid Expansion of ObamaCare.
Clearly the Expansion  program has the potential to swamp the state budget with drastic impacts to taxes and all existing state supported programs.

Roanoke Times, 7-24-2014, Two-thirds of Pg 3, US steps up pressure for Israel-Gaza truce.
Civilian casualty numbers raise questions about Israel’s assault.
-
Not one word about the number of rockets fired into Israel by Hamas.
-
Not one word about Hamas rejecting the Egyptian cease-fire proposal.
-
Not one word about Hamas storing rockets in a UN Run School and after they were discovered they disappeared – (somewhat like Lois Learner’s Emails)!
You think that Hamas moved them into another staging location to be fired into Israel?
-
Not one word about Hamas forcing people to stay in the civilian places Hamas has used for storage and launching of rockets – in the face of Israel announcing plans to hit those targets.    Something about the Geneva Convention and using civilians as shields!
-
Not one word that Israel's enemies clearly state that it's their objective to kill all the Jews and wipe Israel off the map.  How does one negotiate with that kind of enemy?  Something about the Pope negotiating with the SS.
-
Not one word from the RT Editors about what to do if rockets started falling into Roanoke.  They already have what looks like a shot down large aircraft in their midst.
-
The plight of the Palestinians since the UN actions of 1946 is indeed sad. And the saddest part of their plight is the way their cousins in the surrounding countries, instead of helping to assimilate them, have instead used them as a perpetual weapon against Israel including arming them and enabling their military endeavors.

Major Schadenfreude At The Roanoke Times

-
Roanoke Times, 7-20-2014, Pg 1, 9:  Former governor prepares for court.
One-third of front page and all of page 9 with 7 X 10 color photo of former governor Bob and Maureen McDonnell!
-
This after many major stories set in a gleeful tone of righteous indignation.
The reality is that this is a sad situation for the McDonnell family and very disturbing to the people of Virginia.  Had the McDonnell’s received $12 Million for a book deal for a book that hadn’t been written yet, things may have been different.
Perhaps It would be appropriate to reserve one’s glee for the outcome of the trial.
It’s unfortunate that the editors of the Roanoke Times are treating this like great fun at the Colosseum in Rome.
-
The ongoing saga is of course the charges against the McDonnell’s that they accepted gifts in return for significant political favors.
Accept gifts they certainly did as have former governors Kaine and Warner.
What significant political favors they did in exchange (quid pro quo) is the focus of the upcoming trial which is not really necessary after one has been reading the many stories in the Roanoke Times.
-
It would be reasonable and prudent if now the Roanoke Times publishes a detailed account of all the gifts and donors of gifts received by former governors Kaine and Warner.  Just the gifts to fund their inaugurations would be a good place to start.  We then can reflect on their activities in office and determine for ourselves what quid pro quo’s have been overlooked on their behalf.

Children Of Violence Fleeing Homeland

-
The “news” tells us that the 60,000 children that have arrived here from Central America are poor, deprived and victims of violence.
The “news” doesn’t tell us how their parents happened to have $5,000 per child to pay ‘Coyotes’ to take their children to the US.
Being placed in the 'Coyotes' possession is truly a major escalation of fear and violence  and abuse over anything these children had seen before!
-
Talk about children trapped in violence!
Democrat Mayor Ron Emanuel’s Chicago had shooting spree: 22 people shot in 12 hours
So far in 2014, according to data from the Chicago Tribune, there have been 1,254 shooting victims in Chicago.
 http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/jul/19/chicago-shooting-spree-22-people-shot-12-hours/#ixzz3816UPBYM
-
You remember Ron Emanuel – he was Obama’s Chief of Staff!
-
What are Obama and Emanuel doing to get all these victims of violence out of War-torn Chicago and into other communities throughout the US?
How many of those parents have $5,000 per kid to relocate them?
Why are "we" pandering to Central American kids while leaving our own kids in an even worse situation?
Wouldn’t have anything to do with politics, would it?
After all -- Black votes are in the bag – Latino votes are up for grabs!
How sad is that! And these jerks think they’re on the high-ground!
-
-
New News: Misperceptions about U.S. immigration policy behind surge of illegal children, report says --
Actually it really is Obama's fault - who could have guessed?
A new intelligence assessment concludes that misperceptions about U.S. immigration policy – and not Central American violence – are fueling the surge of thousands of children illegally crossing the Mexican border.

Obama The IRS And The Missing Emails Caper

-
Roanoke Times, 7-19-2014, Pg 5:  IRS says hard drive that lost emails destroyed.
-
-
Not only did IRS Executive Lois Lerner’s hard drive crash but 6 others associated with her also crashed; within a month!
No wonder Obama was so sure there’s not a smidgen of evidence available that there was any wrongdoing at the IRS!
-
Talk about insulting the intelligence of 300 million Americans!  The odds of 7 closely related hard drives crashing within a month are beyond calculation;  and all of them associated with Lois Lerner whose materials had been subpoenaed by Congress.
-
All government Emails are sent between computers through routers that are backed-up both for recovery functions and by law for archival purposes.  There is no way that all the Emails from 7 IRS computers can be lost forever by accident!
-
Remember Ollie North?  Ollie deleted all the files from his computer when the Iran-Contra Investigation started.  However, at that time, unlike this time, the Democrats really wanted to see all his Emails – so they went to the archives – and there they were!
It’s so interesting what can happen IF the folk’s in-charge want it to happen – or NOT.

Perspective On Carbon Restrictions

Last month, the EPA proposed major new regulations to restrict carbon emissions from power plants. The aim of these rules is to reduce the harmful effects of anthropic global warming. Some people claim that it will outlaw coal and make electricity more expensive, while others claim that the program will work smoothly while lowering people’s power bills.

After all, the cap-and-trade program of 1990 that regulated sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions worked well. Plants continued to operate while pollution was controlled. The subject of acid rain gradually dropped out of the news. Cannot carbon restrictions work the same way?

Unfortunately, no. SO2 is a “trace” pollutant emitted from a coal-fired plant, typically measured at 1500 parts per million (ppm). A modern scrubber can reduce this value by more than 90 percent. Unfortunately, the “scrubbed” sulfur doesn’t simply disappear. By conservation of mass, we know that it must go somewhere, and that somewhere is the ash-retention ponds that we know and loathe. Once dried, the sulfur-bearing ash is sold for cement or reburied in empty mines.

In addition to ash-retention ponds, it must be noted that scrubbers are expensive to install and power-intensive to run. Enough to reduce power plant output by a full percentage point. This was the source of resistance to the sulfur cap-and-trade program. Ultimately, though, if a coal-fired station had to operate to meet electricity demand, there was a way to make it happen: Add scrubbers.

It’s fundamentally different with carbon dioxide. CO2 is a primary combustion product and is typically measured in the exhaust stream at 150,000 ppm. Conventional scrubbers won’t touch it; new carbon capture and sequestration, or CCS, technology is required. Unfortunately, proposed technologies are power-intensive enough to reduce power plant output by 20-plus percentage points. And again, the captured CO2 doesn’t simply disappear. It must go somewhere. And in this case, massive volumes of CO2 would be moved via high-pressure pipeline to sequestration sites, to be injected deep underground into geologic formations suitable for long-term retention.

Could we ever build such pipelines? If the Keystone XL pipeline is any indication, the answer is no. Many people fear the possibility of pipeline accidents spreading crude oil over the land, and we’ve gone five years without a decision. Imagine the uproar when people learn that proposed pipelines in their area would be filled with an invisible, ground-hugging asphyxiant.

Given the extreme costs of extracting CO2 from the exhaust stream of a coal-fired station and the near-certain political impossibility of piping it for sequestration, CCS won’t happen. As a result, if a coal-fired station is needed to meet electricity demand but would push CO2 emissions over the limit, it would not be permitted to run. A partial shutdown of our coal-fired fleet seems inevitable.

How do we keep the lights on, then? The decommissioned coal-fired stations would have to be replaced with alternatives, such as gas-fired stations, nuclear, or renewables (hydro, wind and solar). Replacing 60 percent of our coal-fired fleet with gas-fired stations (which generate half as much CO2 per kWh) would meet the 2030 goal of a 30 percent reduction from a 2005 baseline. Or alternatively, if the replacements were done with nuclear and/or renewables, only 30 percent of the coal-fired fleet would require replacement. Or we might do a mix.

Fortunately, “fracking” has driven natural gas prices down substantially in recent years (getting us halfway to the 30 percent reduction goal even without carbon regulations), but early field depletion or an environmentalist-led legal crackdown may send prices soaring again.

Regardless of the final mix, though, these carbon rules would constitute a major disruption to the power generation business. In 2012, coal-fired stations generated 1.23 trillion kilowatt-hours of electricity worth more than $150 billion. That’s a full percentage point of GDP, produced using equipment costing many times that amount. Replacing it won’t be cheap. And if we push too hard on renewables, we risk making the same errors that Germany and Denmark have made, where electricity prices have been driven to 36 cents and 40 cents per kWh, respectively. In comparison, AEP charges less than 13 cents per kWh.

Is such cost and disruption really necessary? Well, that depends on how bad AGW will actually be. Frustratingly, the climate simulations used by the IPCC and other climate researchers continue to yield wildly varying results. If the pessimistic simulations are true, then this effort is too little, too late. If the optimistic are true, then it’s pain without purpose. Only if the middle band is correct will the expense be worth it.
