Buying Treasonous Votes

Roanoke Times, 3/24/07, Pg 1, 9: House narrowly approves Iraq withdrawal bill.
-
Not one word in this entire article about Pelosi and associates putting $3.7 BILLION dollars in bribe money in this bill to buy enough treasonous votes to pass this pathetic plan for failure and defeat.
-
The terrorists and their friends will make the killing fields of Laos and Cambodia look like a picnic when we leave in failure and defeat. In the mean time, the members of the fledgling government of Iraq, now know that any effort on their part to defeat the terrorists will tag them as ‘dead men walking’ with their execution date the day after our retreat.
-
Those Congressmen who participated in this gross misconduct of their oath of office are truly a disgrace to their positions in our government, to our troops and to our country.
-
Following a leader blindly is not acceptable, however, fostering and enacting proposals that will lead to certain American defeat is also not acceptable and if done with purely partisan motives is in fact treasonous.

Technically Incorrect Gore

Roanoke Times, 3/22/07, Pg 4A: Gore implores Congress to save planet.
-
Apparently even the editorial board of the Roanoke Times was ashamed to put the big Al Gore presentation to the US Senate on the front page! That tells a story in itself!
Also not covered in the pg 4 story were the Draconian measures Gore urged the Senators to make to stop human-caused global warming via burning of carbon based fuels that contribute to green house gasses.
-
All this after Bill, Hillary, Al and Bill Richardson (Bill’s energy secretary couldn’t get a single Senator (not one) (not even one Democrat) to vote to support the Kyoto Treaty!
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2007/02/still-stuck-on-mis.html
-
It’s now clear that the “science” supporting the human caused global warming is shaky and many highly qualified scientists believe they are being “muzzled” by political operatives who are supporting the Gore-fraternity.

Slavery Apologies

Roanoke Times, 3/17/07, Pg A4: Maryland, Georgia may pass slavery apologies.
-
In the move to atone for what some folks did over 150 years ago, perhaps we should start with the people most responsible for this sad chapter of American history.
-
Where are the folks from Maine and Massachusetts and Rhode Island and the other northern ports from which the financing, captains, crews and ships came that were the key component to buying, capturing, transporting and selling of these victims?
-
Where are Kennedy and Bidden and the rest of their liberal friends and relatives and constituents who became wealthy from the slave trade and were most responsible for making it happen?
-
Why aren’t the liberals and the liberal press demanding that they acknowledge and apologize for their transgressions? Where’s the editorial staff of the Roanoke Times?
-

Plame & Wilson

Roanoke Times,3/17/07, Pg 1: Valerie Plame testified before House panel
-
Roanoke Times, 3/12/07, Pg A5: Florida Pawnshop owner finds yellowcake uranium
-
Based on the two above news articles, it appears Valerie Plame should have sent Frank Cafaro, a pawnshop owner in Belleview, Florida, to Africa to find yellowcake data instead of her husband Joe Wilson.
-
Ms. Plame’s testimony this week was in direct conflict with prior testimony in both congressional hearings and in the Libby trial. Isn’t that cause for a federal prosecutor to investigate her for perjury?
-
The disturbing part of all this is that we have within the CIA people who have such a strong political agenda that they would send a spouse on a mission that they are clearly not qualified or capable to do. How could a high profile ‘white’ political operative like Wilson possibly determine what covert activities had been carried out by Sadism’s secret service agents in Africa?
Just reflect on the events it took to determine that North Korea had obtained plutonium material and equipment and bomb designs from a scientist in Pakistan!
-
The question now is how many more politically motivated folks are squirreled away in the CIA who are more focused on politics than on our national defense and security?

Coalition Slant

Roanoke Times, 3/9/07, Pg 6A: Small print back on pg A6: Republic of George will increase its troop level from 850 to 2000 in Iraq.
-
The Roanoke Times editors used page 1 commentary to explain on 2/22/07 that a British redeployment of some of their troops from Iraq to NATO forces in Afghanistan was evidence that the “coalition of the willing” in Iraq had collapsed!
-
Note the way this increase in support for the coalition is being handled in this case.
-
So much for any attempt by the Roanoke Times editors to be fair and balanced.
Then again – that’s why I write this blog!
-

Howard Stern at VT?

Roanoke Times, 3/5/07, Pg 1: VT geography instructor uses nasty and vile language and scenarios and texts to teach college students with “21st century college student vernacular”.
-
I am so disappointed to find out that VT students cannot learn geography and history without the instructors using Howard Stern language and literature.
-
Based on the entry requirements for VT and the very large amount of money parents are spending to have their youngsters educated at VT, one would think that the curricula would be presented in a profession and proper manner. Apparently NOT!
-

Vindictive Dull Judges

Roanoke Times, 3/3/07, Pg Va 2: Man shot in parking lot may sue hotel but not police per Supreme Court
-
The members of the Supreme Court of Virginia have demonstrated that they are not only very dull but are also nasty and vindictive.
-
In this case a lawyer for the Holiday Inn in Roanoke dared to challenge the courts initial ruling that the motel was responsible for a serious attack on a person in their parking lot.
-
Apparently the learned jurists view is that motel personnel and not the Police are responsible to confront armed and violent felons in a parking lot venue.
How dumb is that! If the police are not responsible for this activity – why do we have police?
-
And what are the rules of engagement these judges are proposing for using deadly force to stop these types of attacks on innocent people?
-
Instead of the Roanoke Times publishing the names and addresses of persons licensed to carry concealed weapons – perhaps they should be promoting programs to have lots more folks packing heat in one of the most dangerous cities in Virginia.
And what is the RT doing to stop these types of attacks in their parking lots?

Global Warming - A Different View

Roanoke Times, 3/16/07, Pg A 4: Warm winter set record worldwide, report says.
In very small buried print: “For the US the winter temperature was near average”.
-
So, the globe is HOT but we’re NOT! Apparently Pres. Bush has a secret weather weapon that’s protecting US.
-
For a contrary view to Al Gore’s movie, view the attached video or see it at a theater.
-
Requires Adobe Flash Player – just over one hour play time – you can pause, take a break, and restart from where you stopped.
Requires hi-speed internet connection
-
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4520665474899458831
-
The conclusions of this movie are:
That we appear to be in a warming cycle.
That warming and cooling cycles have been part of earth’s history for a long time.
That the cause-and-effect factors that causes these cycles are not well understood.
That carbon-dioxide probably plays a minor role in these cycles.
That scientific disagreements with the Al Gore-community are being stifled.
-
Based on Va. Gov. Kaine’s attack upon the University of Virginia’s Climatology Professor (and the subsequent Roanoke Times support for that attack) it is very clear that any dissent on this subject is being officially attacked in Virginia!

GITMO bad guy

Roanoke Times, 3/16/07, Pg 1: Khalid Mohammed, a GITMO detainee, says he was key guy in both world trade tower attacks and that he personally beheaded journalist Daniel Pearl.
-
So, one of the guys that the liberal press have been working so hard to get into an OJ-type judicial setting apparently beheaded one of their own. Too bad about Pearl but he is history and what’s important now is to make Pres. Bush shut-down GITMO because it’s unfair and the left-wingers want to get these detainees into a political forum that they control and can exploit.
-
And what about this connection to the first world trade tower attack? You mean that if the Clinton-Reno team had done their job this guy would have been out-of-action years before 9/11! And given he was the key planner and implementer – that means 9/11 would not have happened?
Looks like just more Clinton incompetence in handling the terrorist threat.
How much of this was in the documents that Sandy Scissors-Hand Burger kept the 9/11 Committee from seeing?

HPV

Roanoke Times, 3/16/07, Pg 1: Despite its prevalence, HPV remains a mystery to many.
RT 3/3/07, Pg 1: Merck (developer of HPV vaccine) speaker muddies decision. Merck-associated Doctor participated in Virginia legislative discussion.
-
Virginia legislature has passed a law requiring all young girls to get a series of three expensive HPV shots as a school attendance requirement.
-
Here we have a new drug with very limited data or history that is going to be required for all young girls in Virginia.
-
Why? Because folks think they will become sexually promiscuous having unprotected-sex with multiple partners thereby increasing the chance of getting HPV which can be associated with cancer.
-
However there’s no provision in the law that prevents them from smoking or driving a ski-jet on SML at 85 MPH.
-
What’s wrong with this picture?
My sons job now is to tell my 15 year old granddaughter that she MUST get this series of three shots because soon she will be having unprotected sex with multiple boys and that she might get HPV which might contribute to an increased risk of cancer some day. What a joy that conversation is going to be! Centainly doen't fit in well with the conversations they've had so far!

Birds, bats, blades

Roanoke Times, 3/2/07, Pg Bus 10: SCC gave an initial nod to a controversial wind farm in Highland County, but said it should close down if too many birds are killed by flying into the turbine blades.
-
Who is on this board and do they all have their GED’s or what?
This green-energy complex will cost millions of dollars to build and over time will save burning millions of tons of carbon-based fuels.
-
Instead of continuing the delay in getting this in-place and then babbling about shutting it down why aren’t these people getting this complex on-line ASAP?
-
And for the bird killers – let’s focus on domestic cats! Yes – your plain ordinary free-ranging (that means allowed to be outside) feline.
-
Studies at Wisconsin Univ estimates 39 MILLION birds are killed by cats each year in that state alone.
http://wildlife.wisc.edu/extension/catfly3.htm
They estimate that hundreds of millions of birds are killed within the US plus lots of other wildlife like baby bunnies.
-
What’s the SCC and anti-windmill folks doing to stop this horrible slaughter?

Desperately trying to rewrite history

Roanoke Times, 3/2/07, Pg Va 8: Editorial: Bush pulled out of Clinton deal based on bad intelligence.
-
The only intelligence issue associated with the North Korean nuclear weapons program was the lack of intelligence used by the Clinton team in not verifying what the North Korean’s were doing while we gave them money, food, fuel and a nuclear reactor.
-
All Clinton had to do was follow Pres. Regan’s policy: TRUST – BUT – VERIFY!
-
So the trust thing didn’t work. Instead of building nuclear weapons out of uranium they bought the components from Pakistan to build Plutonium bombs.
-
George Bush was Governor of Texas during all of this mess, but now the Roanoke Times editorial staff has concluded that it’s all his fault because he didn’t continue to just trust one of the most dangerous leaders in the world.
-
How lame and pathetic is that! What a team up there at the RT!

More misguided Webb stuff

Roanoke Times, 3/2/07, Pg 1: Webb pushes measure on Iran to pass legislation to bar Pres. Bush from attacking Iran without Congressional debate and approval.
-
Once again Jim Watts Webb is blowing hot air with hostile and fiery indignation.
What a buffoon and embarrassment to the state of Virginia.
-
Of course this was quickly put down by his own party that includes 43 Jewish members in this Congress.
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2007/01/washington-post-motivation.html
-
Let’s just reflect. Here we have Iran, demonstrating that they have long-range large missiles capable of carrying large warheads and who are busy developing nuclear bombs and who have a national stated policy that Israel should be wiped off the map.
-
Should Iran put nuclear warheads on a number of ready-to-launch missiles, Jim Watts Webb wants the President to submit a proposal to Congress for their debate and consideration as to weather of not we should destroy these weapons before launch.
-
Perhaps a number of Jewish Americans and the government of Israel have talked to the 43 Jewish Congressmen about this subject and have concluded that Jim Watts Webb is a misguided blowhard jerk -- you think?
-
Of course he’s the darling of the Editorial Board of the Roanoke Times.
-

Racist begot racist

Roanoke Times, 2/26/07, Pg A4: Sharpton and Thurmond have ancestral ties (including big picture of Al Twana Sharpton)
-
Once again the Roanoke Times feels compelled to give a negative and destructive character like Sharpton major “news” coverage.
-
The only story here is ‘connecting the dots’ between two racists.
-
However, at least there came a time when Thurmond said he changed.

Apparently shots were fired

Roanoke Times, 3/14/07, Pg Va 3: Woman in house hit by gunfire. Police were called on report of five shots fired.
-
The Roanoke police, who consistently have difficulty determining IF shots were fired in their city, made a firm determination in this case.
Yes, a woman has gunshot wounds, therefore shots were fired!
-
It’s comforting to know that public safety is alive and well in Roanoke, classified as one of the most dangerous cities in Virginia.
-
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2006/04/bullet-in-living-room-wall.html
-

Dangerous Concealed Weapons

Roanoke Times, 3/14/07, Pg Va 1: Paper receives flak for publishing list of Virginia residents who are licensed by the state to carry a concealed weapon.
-
It’s not clear what the motivation of the Roanoke Times editorial board was in getting and then publishing this list of people who have passed a comprehensive background check and a weapons safety course and were approved by their local sheriff and judge.
-
Perhaps if the RT Editors were concerned about dangerous concealed weapons they would be actively addressing the HIV+AIDS pandemic that has wounded and killed a lot more people than guns owned by licensed persons.
-
HIV+AIDS is the most deadly concealed weapon in our society!

A General's personal views

Roanoke Times, 3/14/07, Pg 8A: Major liberal-heat on Gen. Pace because he expressed his personal view that homosexuality is immoral as part of a discussion about the military’s ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy.
-
This is a problem? We have serving in a high position of the military a person who has a similar view of homosexuality as does the Catholic Church and many other people.
-
Perhaps as a commanding officer responsible for the conduct and discipline of the corps he is very aware of the close and non-private setting that most military service involves. Having ‘sexual ties’ between troops in a combat environment presents conflicts that are clearly not compatible with required life-and-death actions and decisions.
-
Perhaps the General views homosexual acts being practiced in the barracks and other close non-private quarters as being not compatible with the standard of conduct and discipline necessary in a military team.
-
Perhaps the General doesn’t think it is proper for soldiers in uniform to be holding hands, hugging and kissing in a public forum and participating in gay-pride parade settings.
-
It also appears the General doesn’t have the cavalier attitude of one of my Company commanders who observed: “It’s ok to have a few homosexuals in the unit, it helps keep the VD rate down”!
That was of course 20 years before HIV+AIDS.
-

Fire the Federal Prosecutors

Roanoke Times, 3/14/07, Pg 1: Angry lawmakers want to know why 8 federal prosecutors were fired and want A.G. Gonzales to resign.
-
This is just the tip of the iceberg! The new President and the new Attorney General has FIRED ALL 93 federal prosecutors! Damn that Bush and Gonzales!
-
Oh! Hello! That was Bill Clinton and Janet Reno, upon taking office that fired ALL 93 federal prosecutors back in 1993!
Where was all the Democrat and left-wing media righteous indignation then?
-
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/blog/2007/03/14/BL2007031400461.html
-
Firing 8 out of 93. Sound like less than 10% to me. Sounds reasonable and prudent that 10% of any group (left over from the Clinton cabal) would qualify to be replaced.
-
If anything Bush should have fired most of the high-level FBI and CIA and antiterrorism-Prosecutors upon taking office – they certainly didn’t serve the county well in the run-up to 9/11!

Roanoke students lag

Roanoke Times, 2/25/07, Pg 1 & 6A: Roanoke students continue to lag. City graduation rate is 57%. The No Child Left Behind Act so far hasn’t helped older students in the city get ahead.
-
Ah yes! The NCLB Act is failing. By now all the Roanoke Children should be like the children at Lake Woebegone – all above average!
-
Perhaps step one is the measurement-stupid! We’re spending over $100,000 per graduating student ($8,000+/year X 13 years) with dismal results – yet the Roanoke Times and their liberal friends are unhappy that the NCLB Act requires measurement and accountability to determine educational outcomes.
-
Well, now we know! Now what?
Step 1: Let’s hire an ex-jock, without any significant education leadership portfolio, to be the new Roanoke School Superintendent. That should inspire everyone and result in academic excellence.
Step 2: Let’s not address the teaching/learning environment in the classrooms. After all, good teachers with good lesson plans should be able to teach in a hostile and chaotic environment.
Step 3: Let’s not focus on bad-behavior modification. That would be so not politically correct and the ACLU would be on our case big time.
Step 4: Let’s spend millions of dollars building two football stadiums to develop our students for life-long critical skills and knowledge.
-
Then, and most importantly, let’s not accept responsibility for the outcomes of our systems and processes and management. Let’s just say that the No Child Left Behind Act is not working!
-
Why does this situation remind one of Mayor Nogin and friends down there in New Orleans?

VT going for the green

Roanoke Times, 2/24/07, Pg 1: Going for green by Greg Esposito.
Pg 8A: How green is my college? By Tim Thornton
-
Two very good and comprehensive articles on the efforts at VT and other colleges to address energy conservation and reductions to their environmental impacts.
-
Why does the Roanoke Times, who has these two very talented environmental writer’s on-staff, continue to refuse to publicly address their environmental impacts, their carbon-footprint and plans to reduce their greenhouse-gas emissions?

The New Ethics Standard

USA Today, 3/1/07, Pg 8A: House Republicans want La.’s Jefferson off panel.
-
In a 12/14/06 blog item the question was posed:
Then there’s William Jefferson (a New Orleans Democrat Congressman) who is under investigation for corruption by FBI. He can be seen on video of FBI sting. He had $90,000 in marked sting-money in his home freezer. Apparently that’s where you put hot money. What’s The-Broom going to do about him?
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2006/12/nancy-broom-pelosi.html
-
‘The-Broom’, as the new House Leader, promptly appointed Jefferson to the tax-writing Ways & Means Committee. The membership of that committee quickly decided that Jefferson was not suitable to write tax laws and got him removed.
-
So ‘The-Broom’ has now appointed Jefferson to the Homeland Security Committee.
Hello to the ‘New Ethics’ of the Democrat majority in the House!
What an insult to the other members of this committee, past and present!
Can this person get a Top Secret Security Clearance?
Can this person be trusted with some of our most sensitive national security material?
Is this the best candidate ‘The-Broom’ can find in the new Democrat majority?
-
God Bless America – we certainly need all the help we can get!
