Glaciers Retreating

Just Returned from a great trip to Alaska. Spent some time at the Mendenhall Glacier at Juneau.
-
This is one of the most studied and photographed glaciers that were formed during the “little ice age” that ended in the 1700’s. The attached charts are part of the extensive data available at the Mendenhall Visitors Center located directly in front of the glacier.
-
The attached chart shows the extent of the glacier in 1765 (11 years before the American Revolution).
-
The chart also shows the massive retreating that occurred during the 145 years before the Industrial Revolution and mankind’s major adverse impacts on the environment.
-
It’s clear that the retreating (both in volume and distance) that occurred from 1910 until today is small compared to the pre-1910 retreating even though “man-induced global-warming” had hardly begun before 1910!
-
It appears that significant “global-warming” has been going on for 250 years without human contributions.
-
Why doesn’t the Gore-Presentation include this type of data to ensure that a fair and balanced view of this subject is presented?

Global Warming at 100 MPH

Al Gore III son of the former vice president, was arrested in California early Wednesday morning for suspicion of possessing marijuana and prescription drugs.
Gore III was allegedly driving a blue Toyota Prius at speeds over 100 mph when he was pulled over around 2:15 a.m. on the San Diego freeway south of Los Angeles. Smelling marijuana, police searched the car and found less than one ounce of marijuana and prescription drugs Xanax, Valium, Vicodin and Adderall, Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jim Armormino said. The last pharmaceutical is a treatment for attention deficit disorder. "He does not have a prescription for any of those drugs," Amormino said. Gore, 24, was released from a men's jail in Santa Ana after posting $20,000 bail.
-
THIS IS AMAZING! I HAD NO IDEA A PRIUS COULD DO 100 MPH!
-
WHAT IS THE FUEL RATING (MPG), AND HOW MUCH CO2 IS IT EXHAUSTING AT 100 MPH?

I Beg Your Pardon, I Never Promised You a Rose Garden

Roanoke Times,7/3/07, 7/4/07, Pg 1: Bush commutes Libby jail-time, could still receive full pardon. Democrats go “postal”. OBoma and Hillary shocked at this blatant violation of all we hold dear.
-
That darn George Bush has gone and done it again! Acted in violation of laws and Constitution in commuting the jail portion of Scutter Libby’s sentence. And to make it much worse, he hasn’t ruled out pardoning Libby.
-
It’s interesting that his predecessor, Bill Clinton, issued 456 Pardons during his tenure, including those for known and convicted terrorists. Including one of Bill and Hillary’s biggest financial supporters, and fugitive from justice, Marc Rich, and his old White-Water girl friend Susan McDougal, and a member of his cabinet.
-
During his last week in office Clinton pardoned 143 as he walked out the door with absolutely no official processes used.

-
I don’t remember Hillary and her Democrat associates complaining about any of these pardons do you?

Pounding our Food into Fuel

Roanoke Times, 7/2/07, Pg 1: Huge article with huge milk bottle graphic continued pg 7:
Rising prices in our aisles. Consumers have noticed a sharp rise in the price of beef and milk. A long-winded article about shoppers and shop keepers and whole milk
-
And buried back in the fine print of pg 7 is the real issue:
We’re pounding our Food into Fuel!
-
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2007/06/four-dollars-gallon.html
-
Once again the Editorial Staff at the Roanoke Times can’t write a straightforward and honest headline! The bottom line is that we’re making decisions about energy that have a BIG impact on other things, like food, and the “new improved majority Democrat” Congress has just piled-on with massive additional requirements that will increase these impacts even more. Let’s not make that clear. Let’s bury that so that folks don’t start to question the “new improved” Democrat energy plan they’re touting.

Equal Pay

Roanoke Times, 6/24/07, Pg Bus 3: (Women) Stepping back into a career after a break

37% of women left work voluntarily at some point during their careers, and their average break lasted 2.2 years.
-
Amazing! Had I “voluntarily” left work for two years during my career I would not have a job to come back to, and I certainly wouldn’t have a prayer of asking that my pay should be equivalent to those who stayed on-the-job.
-
There are many very legitimate complaints about equal pay for equal work – but the next time the media blasts us with those statistics – they certainly should include the 37% who are “I’m out of here for two years” and then think they can come back as if they never left. What are they thinking? What an eye-opener this article turned out to be.

Presidential Candidate the Pot-man

Roanoke Times, 7/1/07, Pg A 20: New Mexico has a new medical marijuana law with a twist: it required the state to grow the Pot
-
Bill Richardson, Governor of New Mexico (former Clinton aide who was personally responsible for the negotiation that was to ensure North Korea did not get nuclear weapons), now a Democrat Presidential Candidate, has a new state law.
-
His law requires that his administration will grow the Pot that folks will buy for “medical” marijuana in New Mexico.
-
Sounds like it fits in well with Clinton’s “health care concepts” as long as you don’t inhale.

Obama and Faith

Roanoke Times, 6/24/07, Pg A 18: Faith got hijacked for politics. Obama tells church convention that right-wing evangelical leaders have exploited and politicized religious beliefs.
-
Let me get this straight -- Obama’s at a church convention complaining about other politicians exploiting religion. What’s wrong with that picture?
-
Interesting that it’s just right-wing evangelical leaders that are bad actors. Certainly this wouldn’t apply to “The Reverend Al Twana Sharpton” or the “The Reverend Jessie Hymietown Jackson” or to their friends and associates. Nope! Only applies to those bad right-wing guys. All the religious leaders supporting Kerry, Gore, The Clintons et al are really good folks who would never use the pulpit as a political podium.
