Appalachian Power warns river users about increasing water levels

Water levels on the New and Roanoke rivers could rise rapidly starting Tuesday and continue to fluctuate throughout the week due to increasing temperatures, Appalachian Power said Saturday.
Water levels below Claytor Dam could increase up to two feet “in a
matter of minutes,” according to Appalachian Power. Water levels below
Leesville Dam could increase as much as eight feet over a seven-hour
period.
The power company has issued a warning to recreational river users downstream of two of it's hydroelectric dams: the Claytor Dam on the New River and the Leesville Dam on the Roanoke River near Altavista.
The National Weather Service has predicted temperatures next week in the mid-80s to 90s. Appalachian Power has been told by PJM, the independent regional transmission organization that manages the electric grid in 13 states, that power generation may need to be increased at its hydroelectric plants to maintain the reliability of the regional electric grid.

The pictures of police standing outside the Robb Elementary school while an active shooter was shooting inside and students were calling 911 is tragically reminiscent of the police standing outside February 14, 2018, as 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz opened fire on students and staff at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, murdering 17.

On May 24, 2022, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos opened fire at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, killing 19 children and two teachers, and wounding 17 others. Earlier that day, he shot and wounded his 66-year-old grandmother.

Abbott pointed out that Texas law has mandated reporting standards for professionals like doctors, teachers, and nurses, so this directive made it mandatory for those professionals to report the parents of children who are, as he put it, “subjected to these abusive gender-transitioning procedures.” He also said other state agencies have to investigate licensed facilities where such procedures are thought to occur.

Those convicted under the law would face up to 10 years in prison
An Alabama law making it a felony to provide puberty blockers or perform gender transition surgery on minors took effect Monday.
Republican Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey signed the law in early April. The law makes it punishable by up to ten years in prison to provide puberty blockers, hormone treatments, or transition surgery to anyone under 19 years old.

Ford is selling 8 million shares of once high-flying EV maker Rivian, sources say

Ford Motor is selling 8 million of its Rivian Automotive shares as the insider lockup for the stock expires on Sunday, sources told CNBC’s David Faber.
Ford will be selling the shares through Goldman Sachs, sources said.
JPMorgan Chase also plans to sell a Rivian share block of between 13 million and 15 million for an unknown seller, sources told Faber.
Shares of the EV manufacturer have plummeted by more than 50% in the first three months of 2022, reversing course from the fourth quarter, when the company held its stock market debut and saw its value skyrocket
