Alexandria Va. 1700s Ship And Sea Level Rise

The recent discovery of the remnants of a 1700s ship in a commercial development project in Alexandria Virginia has stirred great archaeological interest.
Not yet examined is the interesting intersection of this discovery with the ongoing AGW Alarmists “claims” of the major and catastrophic rise of the sea along the Washington, Virginian, North Carolina coastlines.

The AGW Alarmists neglect to inform us about the major changes in the sea-to-land relationship caused by plate tectonics and the earth’s rebound from the massive asteroid that blew-out and formed the Chesapeake Bay.

The 1700s ships location highlights the land to sea-level relationship over the past 300 years. The archaeologists indicate the ship was not significantly moved after it “sunk” (appears to have been approximately 300-feet out into the Potomac River from the 1749 shoreline). Appears to be now about 300-feet inland from the current (1845) shoreline after the shoreline had been expanded by approximately 600-feet. That expansion (landfill) of the Alexandria waterfront is shown in the 1749 shoreline superimposed on the 1845 shoreline that appears to be very close to the current shoreline.

The graphic sea level of the past 150 years indicates that there has been a “global rise” of 20 cm or approximately 8-inches.
In local areas, the rise and or fall of the earth can make the relative change appear to be significantly different than the “global rise”.
There has not been significant change to the rate of sea level rise associated with increases in atmospheric CO2.
The graphic highlights the very large natural yearly variation in sea levels.

It will be very interesting to review the ongoing data concerning the ship and how the so-called catastrophic sea level rise at Tide Water Virginia relates to this discovery and to the artificial extension of the Alexandria shoreline.

The remains of a ship dating back to the Revolutionary War have been found at a site of a new hotel under construction in Virginia.
Local archaeologists in Alexandria are now scrambling to identify the story behind the 250-year-old sailing ship. The area once was in the Potomac River before it was backfilled two centuries ago to expand Alexandria's waterfront.
"A remarkable archaeological dream basically,” Francine Bromberg, who has been the archaeologist in Alexandria for a quarter century, told Fox 5. "We know that this ship was put in place sometime between 1775 and 1798.”

A large, heavy ship, scuttled between 1775 and 1798, is being dug out of its damp grave at the site of a new hotel construction project in Old Town Alexandria.
Archaeologists found the partial hull of a ship at 220 S. Union Street, part of the city’s major redevelopment of the Potomac River waterfront. It’s on the same one-block site where workers two months ago discovered a 1755 foundation from a warehouse that is believed to have been the city’s first public building.
