College Costs Up Enrollment Down: Who could have seen that coming?

“Total enrollment at the state’s public and private colleges and universities dropped this academic year — a loss that came despite an increase in the pool of high school seniors who could have filled those seats.”

“During the discussion, Virginia Tech President Timothy Sands cited competition from neighboring states for Virginia’s top students. But he said some schools are offering highly discounted tuition just to fill seats, “which doesn’t make any financial sense.””

Talking about financial sense by one who just gave a VT Administrator a $1,600 per DAY job ($408,000 / 250) because “he’s the mastermind of a new brand of cross-discipline education”

And giving a discounted tuition to keep a class room full instead of no income from those empty seats doesn’t make any financial sense? Really? No wonder our colleges have run-away costs and declining levels of competency!

Instead of giving a cross-discipline Administrator $1,600 per DAY, VT should be hiring “cost control managers”, focusing on core areas of competency and ensuring a return on the hundreds of millions of dollars invested in technology.

Wouldn’t want to do that – we teach good business practices – We don’t use them!
