The Proposed Roanoke County Data Center, Wood Haven Technology Park near the intersection of 81 & 581, appears to be “drawing less fire” than some of the others in the Region.
Perhaps taxpaying residents are interested in replacing the tax-base lost when GE left.
Perhaps it’s because the location does not seem a threat to most residents.
Perhaps its because Roanoke County has fewer hyper-residents.
Perhaps residents are OK with their elected representatives managing the project.
Perhaps none of the above
At any rate, it appears the project is being taken seriously by the Town Fathers who have been exploring the plusses and minuses.
Also, it appears that the local media is Not leading a “lynch-mob” but seem focused on facts and reason and a recognition of potential major tax relief and jobs in an area that needs both.

The Western Virginia Regional Industrial Facility Authority — which was formed by several localities, including Roanoke County and the cities of Roanoke and Salem — voted to authorize the sale of land at the park earlier this month, and speculation spread that it was slated for a data center. On Tuesday morning, the authority confirmed that the buyer, Clearview Dynamics LLC, was evaluating the property with the intent of constructing a data center.

My exposure to Mahjong started circa 1940s in the Catskills in which Jewish ladies, who were escaping NYC summer heat, before widespread air-conditioning, were playing Mahjong (Mah Jongg) as a prime pastime activity.

The Appomattox County Board of Supervisors on Monday voted to approve a “performance agreement” with the developer of a proposed data center project on nearly 450 acres of land in the county.

Initial claims for jobless benefits have been extraordinarily low for most of this year, a testament to the strength of the labor market and the resilience of the economy. Even a jump in oil prices following the start of the fighting with Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has not caused employers to reconsider their payroll levels.
