It is no surprise that a unanimous three-judge panel of the Ninth Circuit just enjoined the blatantly unconstitutional attempt by the "No-Longer-So-Golden State" to impose restrictions on the ability of ICE and other federal agents to enforce federal immigration law. That panel was doing exactly what federal courts are supposed to do — uphold the U.S. Constitution.

On October 14 in U.S. v. California, the court tossed the so-called "No Vigilantes Act" (NVA) onto the ash heap. This law was part of the state’s continuing effort to obstruct federal immigration enforcement, which has included relentless public attacks by the governor and state officials on federal agents just trying to do their job of enforcing the law. That includes noxious claims like Newsom likening them to the thuggish "secret police" of an "authoritarian" state.

Beth Macy The Data Center Lady

There’s nothing like a political campaign to convert a journalist and author like Beth Macy into one knowledgeable about the development of major new data centeers.
After all, she uses PC’s and copiers and fax’s and word processors and the internet to write books, doesn’t she?

Talk about your personal data center!
Not clear she has ever built anything, including a bird house, but, with a word-processor one cam build big, beautiful things in no time, for no money, with no knowledge; an ideal basis for a political campaign.
Perhaps a better approach would be for the county and concerned citizens to join together with Google to develop an outstanding world-class facility on an expedited schedule that will provide good jobs and income and tax revenue for the benefit of the county and region and the company.

Google planning data center at Roanoke County’s Wood Haven site
Google is considering building a data center at the Wood Haven Technology Park in Roanoke County, the Western Virginia Regional Industrial Facility Authority confirmed Friday.

In a news release sent out shortly before its monthly meeting, the authority said Google is “evaluating” the space, and that the due diligence and inspection period will run through March 2027.

The authority had acknowledged that Clearview Dynamics intended to build a data center on the land, a 111-acre property that sits seven miles from downtown Roanoke.

Trump Zalensky Separated Now Divorced!

Trump has half-heartedly supported Zalensky in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
This marginalizing has increased as the price of oil has escalated.
There now is a major fracture as Trump is trying to get oil from Russia because of Iran’s successful choking off the Strait of Hormuz thereby driving the price of oil to $100 right before the US election, making the Democrats and Iranians gleeful.

It’s still not clear why Trump stopped the bombing of Iran in February and left the Republican Guards basically intact and in-charge.

As the 2027 state legislative session approaches, state Sen. Russet Perry, D-Loudoun, has introduced a bill for a statewide data center moratorium.

Senate Bill 843 would prohibit localities from approving data center applications for three years, starting July 1, 2027. State agencies — including the State Corporation Commission, which regulates utilities — would not be allowed to issue permits or other approvals for data center development, or for energy infrastructure meant to serve them.
In a statement, Perry said the proposed moratorium would give Virginia time to create a “comprehensive statewide plan.”

Data Centers are like many other things in life – they offer risks and rewards.

The Data Centers are time-dependent functions. As the months go by other options become available and opportunities can slip by --- must be 50 country songs about that.

The Data Center developers are in competition with others to build facilities for customers anxious to get their facilities on-line before their competitors.
Why would they wait 3 years for Virginia to contemplate all this?
Can’t we hire consulting firms to represent our best interests as we do with other complex projects?
There are a limited number of these very expensive facilities to be built and staffed -- clearly time is of the essense IF one were serious about playing in this high-stakes game that has major implications for tax receipts and private property tax relief and short-term and long-term jobs.

Public Executions Are History and should stay that way!
The proposal to televise the execution of Nidal Hasan is a misguided idea.
We are shocked almost every day by violent crimes but televising executions
by the government does not further our humanity or lawfulness.
On the contrary, it diminishes our sensitivity to humanity.
Capital punishment is appropriate, but not as a public spectacle.
Hopefully this proposal will be rescinded.

Franklin County Republicans Address Data Center Hostility

Two Franklin Co Va organizations have addressed the Data Center Conflicts with a call for civility, reason and respect. Hopefully more will join that approach.
Based on the significant impacts, plus and minus, Data Centers can have on the financial, environmental, and social components of a local community, it behooves all residents to address the issues involved in a mature, reasoned and respectful manner.

The Franklin County Republican Committee has joined the Proud Patriots of Smith Mountain Lake in calling for a return to civility between citizens and local representatives as recent issues, including a possible data center in the county, have resulted in an increase in animosity.
The two Republican groups released a joint statement late last month. It is part of an increased effort to reach out to the community on larger issues.

Mach-1 In A HiJacked Commercial 737-Max

A co-pilot, who had been banned from flying by another airline, tried to hi-jack and crash a plane by attacking the pilot with an ax! Although badly wounded, the pilot was able to open the door into the passenger section.
ProActive passengers rushed into the cockpit, subdued the co-pilot and pulled the controls back to level out the plane after hitting Mach-1 and descending 17,000-feet, 3-miles, during which the plane’s tail section was damaged from the forces.
Other traveling-pilots took over and safely landed the plane.
The pilot is recovering from his injuries.
The terrorist-copilot is in custody.

Jobs: Statistics Don’t Lie But Liars Use Statistics

One thing is for certain: jobs and the economy and the outlook are far better today than when Biden and the Democrats were in-charge!

Fewer Americans applied for unemployment benefits last week, continuing the best year for job security in nearly sixty years.
Jobless Claims Fall to 197,000 in Best Year Since 1969
The Labor Department said Thursday that new applications for unemployment benefits dipped to 197,000, down from 198,000 in the prior week. (The prior week’s claim was revised up by 1,000.)
The four-week moving average of claims fell to 200,000, an extraordinary low level by historical standards, down from 202,500 in the prior week.
So far this year, jobless claims have averaged just under 210,000. This is the lowest average for the January through September period since 1969. From 1970 until this year, there was never a January through September period in which claims were this low.

The U.S. added only 29,000 jobs in September, the government said in its final employment report before the midterm elections.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics said the unemployment rate inched up slightly, from 4.1% to 4.2%.
Wall Street forecasters had expected 84,000 added jobs, so the report will be seen as disappointing.
Health care added 17,000 jobs, continuing its upward trend but at a slower pace than normal. Construction and manufacturing were up slightly, at 11,000 and 9,000 jobs respectively.
The report is a disappointing downward turn for President Trump, who is touting an economic renaissance before the midterms.
The country added a whopping 162,000 jobs in August despite earlier summer losses. A surge in the hospitality sector and teacher hiring ahead of the new school year buoyed the month.
Job gains were lackluster in 2025, as employers eased off a post-pandemic hiring frenzy and worried about factors such as new tariffs.
