Officials believe there are no survivors after a passenger plane on approach to Reagan National Airport near Washington, DC, collided Wednesday night with a US Army helicopter midair, sending both aircraft into the Potomac River below, a DC fire official said.
First responders have recovered 27 bodies from the plane and one from the helicopter, Fire and EMS Chief John A. Donnelly said at a news conference Thursday morning. There were 64 people on board the plane and the three soldiers in the Army helicopter, according to DC Mayor Muriel Bowser.

After the November election, California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced his plans to “Trump-proof” the Golden State. How about fire-proofing? Los Angeles’s horrific fires are exposing the costs of its progressive follies, which even wealthy liberals in their Palisades palaces can’t escape.

Start with its environmental obsessions. The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power in 2019 sought to widen a fire-access road and replace old wooden utility poles in the Topanga Canyon abutting the Palisades with steel ones to make power lines fire- and wind-resistant. In the process, crews removed an estimated 182 Braunton’s milkvetch plants, an endangered species.

The utility halted the project as state officials investigated the plant destruction. More than a year later, the California Coastal Commission issued a cease-and-desist order, fined the utility $2 million, and required “mitigation” for the project’s impact on the species. This involved replacing “nonnative” vegetation with plants native to the state. You have to chuckle at the contradiction: California’s progressives want to expel foreign flora and fauna but provide a sanctuary for illegal immigrants.

The last couple of decades have had more dry years, but then so did the 1910s and 1920s when carbon emissions were far less than they are today.

Johnson didn’t simply dial 911 as others in the wildfire’s path did: He turned to his private firefighting system for protection.
Johnson pays about $5,000 a year to lease the system, a pump-and-hose apparatus that can draw large amounts of water from his swimming pool to help fight the progress of wildfires and backstop the city’s municipal firefighters and hydrants.

Just as Johnson and his wife started hosing down their property in hopes of preventing any embers from igniting, a man sent by the system’s supplier, Fire Defense Service, showed up to help them. The Johnsons soon evacuated, believing they would never see their house again. But the man from Fire Defense stayed behind to help protect their house and a neighbor’s who was also a client.

One of the primary drivers of the devastation has been a lack of water due to unfilled reservoirs in Los Angeles County and unmaintained, failing infrastructure that caused fire hydrants to run dry. LA Fires & Roanoke Floods: Fish Won! People Lost Big!

The horrendous Jan 2025 California fires and Roanoke’s ongoing floods intersect via the endangered species act and the refusal of government leaders to take required actions to safeguard persons and property in preference to 4-inch long minnows.
In Roanoke Va. the snail darters prevented a Roanoke River renovation from solving a major ongoing flooding problem resulting in a 73-million dollar Roaoke River Bank Beatification instead of flood control.
In California the little Delta-Smelt fish resulted in major river waters being sent out to the Pacific instead of being impounded and used for green-irrigation and fire suppression along with failure to remove dead and down vegetation with controlled burns.
The so-called-environmentalist won; sanity and responsibility and people lost big in ongoing wild-fire events.
