Youngkin’s Virginia Gay Conundrum
There is nothing “gay” about Virginia “Republican Gay Politics”!
The current Republican candidate for Lt Gov,, John Reid, is under extreme scrutiny for gay-pornographic content on a website attributed to him by ‘some people’.
Gov Youngkin has called for Reid to abandon his Republican campaign for Lt. Gov.
Reid disowns the web-material and is lashing out at his distractors claiming they are AntiGay bigots.
Perhaps this is not a “gay” issue or a “Republican” issue.
Perhaps this is decency and moral turpitude issue as was the 2023 Democrat couple that was accused of doing ‘internet porn on request’ for political donations. That female stayed on the Democrat ballot but lost in the election to someone with more modest fundraising.

On the other hand, Christian Conservatives can be very edgy about sex-stuff.
In 2020 incumbent Republican 5th Dist Riggleman was voted out in a primary “caucus” of ‘very religious folks’ representing a small fraction of the 5th District Republicans. They were upset that Riggleman had officiated a gay welddng.

Subsequently the ‘primary’ rules were changed so that full district participation was required for primary campaigns.

That requirement is now under challenge by the same folks who successfully dethroned Riggleman.

Riggleman won the 5th in 2018 with 165,000 votes in a general election.
He lost to Good , protégé of Goode, in a “Party Convention” of 2500 total votes.

Youngkin has pulled off the improbable again: He is blowing up the Republican Party that he rebuilt, demanding that John Reid, an openly gay conservative former broadcaster with considerable grassroots support, surrender the nomination for lieutenant governor. This is because saucy photographs — of which Reid says he knows nothing — appeared on a social media site that may or may not be linked to Reid, ergo, disqualifying him for office.

At packed Henrico rally, John Reid blasts 'Richmond swamp'
The controversy surrounding John Reid, the GOP nominee for lieutenant governor, has energized his base, as shown by the hundreds of supporters who packed a Wednesday night rally in Henrico County.
Reid, calling himself "a conservative fighter," immediately addressed the controversy, which began Friday when Youngkin asked him to step down over a Tumblr account that shares a username with Reid’s other social media and contains reposted images of other nude men. Reid denies the online profile is his and has accused the governor of staging a coup against a gay man.
