WildFire Reality: No Preemptive California Fire Containment

-
The superfluous carping between Brown and Trump as to the cause of fires burning in the parched western US notwithstanding, it is very clear that ‘forever wild’ forest management is a total failure and ecological disaster.
We have witnessed that failure many times from coast to coast including the massive fires in Yellowstone.
-
Let’s ignore basic forest management reality.
Let’s not have major swaths of green clear-cut fire-stops in our forests.
Let’s not have good forest service roads capable of moving heavy equipment quickly into remote areas.
Let's not build holding ponds for readily available fire-fighting water.
Let’s not have regular clean-up of combustible woods and dead-down trees.
Let’s let massive amounts of fuel accumulate that are subject to the multitudes of reasons forest fires are started, most of which are ‘natural’.
Let’s ignore the basic reality that those things that are Not busy growing are busy dying.
Let’s just keep listening to those know-it-all know-nothings who claim to be environmentalists but who really are just charlatans selling their own brand of false reality with no responsibility, accountability or liability!
Talk about releasing CO2 and air pollution!
-
-
Here in SW-Virginia we are now squandering the opportunity to greatly expand the green clear-cut MVP pipeline right-of-way to a significant wide fire-stop to help protect our Blue Ridge.
Talk about cutting your nose to spite your face!
-
And for those who claim this is all new, never happened before and it’s your fault for burning fossil fuels – reflect on  horrific fire history that belies those Goreite chants.

Record US WildFires ---  No AGW-CO2

•        The Miramichi Fire, 1825,  was one of the worst forest fires in North American history. More than 3 million acres had burned and at least 160 people killed.

•        Great Peshtigo Fire, Oct 1871, a firestorm that ravaged the Wisconsin countryside, leaving more than 1,500 dead, the most fatalities by fire in U.S. history.

•        The Great Hinckley Fire of 1894 ravaged more than 200,000 acres and claimed at least 418 lives — one of the deadliest wildfires in U.S. history.

•        The Great Fire of 1910,  believed to be the largest single fire in recorded U.S. history. It burned more than   3 million acres in Idaho, Montana and Washington, roughly the size of Connecticut. There were 87 fatalities from the fire and 78 of those were firefighters.

•        The Cloquet Fire of 1918, claimed nearly 500 lives in a single day. 38 communities had been razed to the ground.
-
-
2008 --- Save the Trees?  Really?
Yet again millions of fine healthy mature trees are burning. Trees that should have been harvested for lumber and fiber except the “environmentalists” wanted to “save” them.
-
I wonder how many spotted owls have been cooked? They probably taste like chicken anyway.
-
Also, we can’t fight the fires because logging roads have been banned! Apparently we don’t want access to the peoples-forest and we sure wouldn’t want to have fire-breaks!
-
Exactly how dull are we that we let people like the sierra club establish these ignorant public forest-management policies? However, soon the major media will be telling us how nicely the forest is recovering as they did after Yellowstone burned. Wouldn’t the forest recover just as nicely if we had harvested these mature trees instead of letting them burn?
Trees are a sustainable and renewable resource!

Santa Ana Winds Driving Wild-Fires For 5,000-Years

-
The AGW Gorites are out of their gourds trying to figure out how to blame you and your use of fossil fuels for the devastating wild-fires sweeping California.
Reality is getting in their way:
1. There’s a 5,000 year old history of the Santa Ana Winds that are driving these brush fires into massive wild-fires
-
-
2.  There’s over 200-years of fire records showing the massive fires driven by the Santa Ana Winds long before the CO2 build-up that started in 1950.
-
3.  The California West Coast has become a target rich environment of people, buildings and infrastructure subject to all types of damaging ‘Natural’ events.
-
4.  The Democrat mismanagement of California has neglected the maintenance and infrastructure necessary to handle and control wild-fires, in-spite-of their 200-years of fire history.
-
5.  Wild-Fire Reality: No Preemptive California Fire Containment
-
-
The Santa Ana winds and the accompanying raging wildfires have been a part of the ecosystem of the Los Angeles Basin for over 5,000 years, dating back to the earliest habitation of the region by the Tongva and Tataviam peoples.[18]
The Santa Ana winds have been recognized and reported in English-language records as a weather phenomenon in Southern California since at least the mid-nineteenth century.[2] Various episodes of hot, dry winds have been described over this history as dust storms, hurricane-force winds, and violent north-easters, damaging houses and destroying fruit orchards. Newspaper archives have many photographs of regional damage dating back to the beginnings of news reporting in Los Angeles. When the Los Angeles Basin was primarily an agricultural region, the winds were feared particularly by farmers for their potential to destroy crops.[2]

California Still Burning

-
Since the beginning of the year, more than 8,200 California wildfires have scorched “well over 4 million acres” or 6,250 square miles, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said Sunday in a statement. There have been 31 deaths and nearly 8,700 buildings have been destroyed, the governor said.

LA Fires & Roanoke Floods: Fish Won! People Lost Big!

-
The horrendous Jan 2025 California fires and Roanoke’s ongoing floods intersect via the endangered species act and the refusal of government leaders to take required actions to safeguard persons and property in preference to 4-inch long minnows.
In Roanoke Va. the snail darters prevented a Roanoke River renovation from solving a major ongoing flooding problem resulting in a 73-million dollar Roaoke River Bank Beatification instead of flood control.
In California the little Delta-Smelt fish resulted in major river waters being sent out to the Pacific instead of being impounded and used for green-irrigation and fire suppression along with failure to remove dead and down vegetation with controlled burns.
The so-called-environmentalist won; sanity and responsibility and people lost big in ongoing wild-fire events.

Five people have died, more than 2,000 structures have burned and at least 130,000 residents are under evacuation orders because of the wildfires burning across Los Angeles County.

“The Trump administration believes the state’s stringent environmental protection policies are hampering efforts by firefighters to fight the largest fire in state history.
In a tweet sent Monday, President Trump said water that can be used for fires in California is “foolishly” being diverted into the Pacific Ocean.” 2018
The directive asks the federal agency to “make clear” that water can be used as necessary to fight the fires, even if they impact endangered species.

Privatizing Firefighting Again

-
Reflections of ‘Paladin: Only Have Hose Will Travel’
Johnny Western - Ballad of Paladin Have Gun Will Travel
-
-
Back to the future:
As fires become more frequent and expensive, some insurers pay for private firefighting crews
Wealthy Homeowners and Their Insurers Turn to Hired Help to Fight L.A. Wildfires - WSJ
-
When former Olympic gold-medal sprinter Michael Johnson heard the Palisades fire was heading his way, he knew his multimillion-dollar hillside home in Malibu, Calif., was in danger.
Johnson didn’t simply dial 911 as others in the wildfire’s path did: He turned to his private firefighting system for protection.
Johnson pays about $5,000 a year to lease the system, a pump-and-hose apparatus that can draw large amounts of water from his swimming pool to help fight the progress of wildfires and backstop the city’s municipal firefighters and hydrants.
-
Just as Johnson and his wife started hosing down their property in hopes of preventing any embers from igniting, a man sent by the system’s supplier, Fire Defense Service, showed up to help them. The Johnsons soon evacuated, believing they would never see their house again. But the man from Fire Defense stayed behind to help protect their house and a neighbor’s who was also a client.
-
-
Back to the future:
When the "Great Fire of London" occurred, which devastated much of the city and led to the establishment of the first fire insurance companies, who then funded their own fire brigades to protect the properties they insured from future fires; essentially creating the link between insurance companies and dedicated firefighting teams.
-
In US in 1800’s ‘fire marks’, were metal plates attached to buildings to indicate that they were insured and protected by the indicated 'privately paid' fire brigade.

Gore’s AGW Canadian WildFires?

 -
Roanoke Times, 5-8-2016, Pg Hz 1, 6: How climate change leads to overgrown hiking trails.
Man-made warming is causing wildfires that is causing the forest service to spend all their budgets on fighting fires with nothing left over to maintain hiking trails.
-
Once again the "1984 Doublespeak" defines "climate change" to mean Man-made as opposed to "Natural" Climate Change -- the only kind so far.
-
Canada and US is burning and it’s your fault!
Obama, Gore and The Global Warming Alarmists are blaming you for burning those fossil fuels that are releasing CO2 into the atmosphere causing catastrophic man-made global warming AGW which in turn is causing massive climate change which is causing the Canadian wildfires.  Really?
-
The public is exposed to this discredited hypothesis adverse outcomes because “The Pravda Media” isn’t reporting the historical North American record wildfires and the fact they occurred “naturally” before there was any significant man-made CO2 and therefore were influenced by “natural” climate conditions, the only kind so far.
-
Wouldn’t want to expose the public to the historical natural facts that may cause them to be skeptical of the AGW-alarmist propaganda.
-
The only new news is that we have expanded from 100 million people to 330 million people and therefore we are now “a target rich environment”.

Smokehouse Creek Fire: Largest wildfire in Texas history 100% contained | Fox Weather
The Smokehouse Creek Fire started on Feb. 26 north of Stinnett, Texas, in Hutchinson County, quickly growing to 40,000 acres. Three days later, the fire had consumed an estimated 1.058 million acres, becoming the largest fire in Lone Star State history. The fire then stretched across the Oklahoma border, scorching another 70,000 acres in the Oklahoma Panhandle.
The East Amarillo Complex Fire burned over 907,245 acres in 2006 and is now the state's second-largest wildfire.

Forest Fires Are Result Of Nature And Man But Wild-Fires Then Result From Wrong-Headed Forest Management.
Smoke from Eastern Canada’s current forest fire has drifted down to NYC.
The Gore disciples tell us it’s all about global warming. Really?
-
Example: Not articulated are the massive record Eastern Canada fires that occurred well before so called man-made global warming.
The Miramichi Fire, 1825, Eastern Canada, New Brunswick. Was one of the worst forest fires in North American history. More than 3 million acres (6,000-sq-mi) had burned and at least 160 people killed. It ranks among the three largest forest fires ever recorded in North America all before the increased CO2 levels.
1825 Miramichi fire - Wikipedia
-
-
Also not articulated are the malfeasant forest management procedures that have stopped controlled-burns and stopped the establishment and maintenance of access roads and adequate fire-breaks.
The result of ‘forever wild’ is forest fires and blight and disease.
Reality: Mother Nature starts forest fires, she doesn’t stop them.
-
Professional Forest Managers know what is required but so-called misguided-environmentalists have their way and then redirect accountability for their malfeasant policies when devastation results.

Insurers’ Rule Change Puts (All) California Homeowners on the Hook for L.A. Fire
The spiraling cost to rebuild could overwhelm the California Fair Plan, the decades-old, government-created insurance safety net
Insurers’ Rule Change Puts California Homeowners on the Hook for L.A. Fire - WSJ
A little-noticed rule change last year by California’s insurance regulator will likely shift a large chunk of the cost of the Los Angeles wildfires to homeowners across the state.
Pushed by insurers, the change puts California homeowners on the hook to pay directly toward the cost of rebuilding from very large disasters through even fatter insurance bills—whether they were exposed to the L.A. fire or not.

The Governor waives environmental rules to assist rebuilding from the wildfires. Why not for everyone?
Newsom Has a Permitting Epiphany - WSJ
California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Sunday waived the state’s environmental laws in areas affected by the fires to expedite rebuilding. Wonderful, but that raises a question: Why not ease regulations for all projects if the rules are such a barrier to development?

California Inferno Was ‘Preventable.’ Blame Malfeasance of Newsom, Bass for Catastrophe.
Blame for Catastrophic Calif. Wildfires Lies With Newsom, Bass
And so put it all together, whether it’s a deliberate policy to not store water, not preserve water. Last year was one of the wettest years that we’ve had. We’ve had three out of the last four years have been very wet. We had a huge snowpack. We had rivers that were running in 19th-century fashion, but out to the sea to save the delta smelt.
So, it was a total systems collapse from the idea of not spending money on irrigation, storage, water, fire prevention, force management, a viable insurance industry, a DEI hierarchy. You put it all together and it’s something like a DEI-Green New Deal hydrogen bomb.

Hawaii Governor: ‘Look Over There’

-
The Hawaii Governor gave an extended self-serving TV interview on the wild-fire that ravished Lahaina on the Hawaiian island of Maui where it appears over-one-hundred residents have died.

Death toll rises to 89 in Hawaii, making it the deadliest wildfire in modern U.S. history (nbcnews.com)

-
Not covered by the Governor:
-
Why the emergency siren system remained silent?
Why was there No effective fire-break barrier between the town and the nearby wooded dry-grassy savannas in a state covered with volcanoes and known for lightning storms and fires?
What actions were taken by the state government for evacuation and fire-fighting?
-
No need to address any of this because it was Global Warming’s Fault and therefore government responsibility and accountability for citizen welfare does not apply.

“These savannas now cover about a million acres across the main Hawaiian Islands

Another important factor in the state’s growing vulnerability of late has been its abundance of unmanaged dry vegetation providing the ideal fuel, much of which is accounted for by invasive species like Guinea grass that are non-native to Hawaii but have colonized areas of former farmland and forest.
“These savannas now cover about a million acres across the main Hawaiian Islands, mostly the legacy of land clearing for plantation agriculture and ranching in the late 1800s/early 1900s,” Professor Clay Trauernicht, also of the University of Hawaii, explained on X, formerly Twitter.
“The transformation to savanna makes the landscape way more sensitive to bad ‘fire weather’ – hot, dry, windy conditions. It also means we get huge buildups of fuels during rainy periods.

Stop WildFires With Fire-Breaks

-
Roanoke Times, 7-20-2019, Pg N&W 1:  Trump Admin proposed plan to slow wildfires by clearing swaths of land.
“The Trump administration is proposing an ambitious plan to slow Western wildfires by bulldozing, mowing or revegetating large swaths of land along 11,000 miles (17,700 kilometers) of terrain in the West.”

Virginia is forfeiting the opportunity to provide a major anti-wildfire Fire-Break along the MPV pipeline from I-81 across the Blue Ridge to US-460.
During the current MVP construction all the facilities and resources are available to extend the narrow right-of-way into a viable Fire-Break.
Unfortunately we’re all too busy trying to obstruct the project in order to ‘see the forest for the trees’ and protect our beautiful Blue Ridge from becoming the Black Ridge.

AGW-Skeptics Reality-Reflections: As destructive and disruptive as this fire was --- it pales in comparison to the five biggest US wildfires’ that all occurred before CO2 build-up and the advertised AGW-global-warming.

Also exacerbating this fire’s destruction is the major increase in residences, businesses and infrastructure resulting in a ‘target-rich’ environment where there once were grass and buffalo.

California's Shock & Awe Reality

-
California’s massive and devastating wild-fires of Jan 2025 is reflective of the 3rd Reich’s Blitzkrieg of Poland in 1939; a rolling total devastation without mercy or reprieve.
The moderating news is the limited number of casualties compared to prior fires.

WSJ: How the Left Turned California Into a Paradise Lost
Gavin Newsom promised to ‘Trump-proof’ the Golden State. If only he’d fireproofed it instead.
How the Left Turned California Into a Paradise Lost - WSJ
After the November election, California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced his plans to “Trump-proof” the Golden State. How about fire-proofing? Los Angeles’s horrific fires are exposing the costs of its progressive follies, which even wealthy liberals in their Palisades palaces can’t escape.
-
Start with its environmental obsessions. The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power in 2019 sought to widen a fire-access road and replace old wooden utility poles in the Topanga Canyon abutting the Palisades with steel ones to make power lines fire- and wind-resistant. In the process, crews removed an estimated 182 Braunton’s milkvetch plants, an endangered species.
-
The utility halted the project as state officials investigated the plant destruction. More than a year later, the California Coastal Commission issued a cease-and-desist order, fined the utility $2 million, and required “mitigation” for the project’s impact on the species. This involved replacing “nonnative” vegetation with plants native to the state. You have to chuckle at the contradiction: California’s progressives want to expel foreign flora and fauna but provide a sanctuary for illegal immigrants.
-
-
WSJ: California’s Wildfire Climate Excuse
Gov. Newsom tilts at carbon emissions, not fire mitigation.

California’s Wildfire Climate Excuse - WSJ
This ignores that California’s climate has long been variable with dry years following wet ones. The nearby chart from the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment shows precipitation in the state going back 130 or so years. There are wet and dry spells. The last couple of decades have had more dry years, but then so did the 1910s and 1920s when carbon emissions were far less than they are today.
-
-
WSJ: End of a Climate Delusion
Amid California’s fires, voters wake up from the dream that green pork is a solution.

End of a Climate Delusion - WSJ
Here’s another concept: Climate change can exist and yet be an insignificant variable. In Southern California’s Mediterranean climate, anytime 100-mile-an-hour winds start blowing embers toward densely packed housing developments, a conflagration is certain. The only answer then is to have the manpower and resources ready to put fires out as quickly as they start.
