More Gore Hypocrisy
Roanoke Times, 5/30/06, Pg Va 9: A test of our character by NY Times Paul Krugman.
A flowery pro-Al Gore article with big graphic hawking his movie on the environment. How wonderful Al is and how great things would be if only we bought his book and now paid to see his movie.
-
My issue with Al Gore is not global warming. The issue with Al Gore is his hypocrisy!
-
Al and Bill and Hillary were in office for eight years. What did they do?
-
Ah yes. Bill brought back the Kyoto treaty, which was rejected by the Senate 99 to 0. Ninety-nine to zero! And what did Al, Bill and Hillary do about that? Al was the President of the Senate for eight years!
They collectively couldn’t get even one Democrat Senator to support them?
-
And now it’s all about Bush!
-
Al Gore – a perpetual hypocritical looser and whiner! Why is he in the news?

Poison Ivy Scare
Roanoke Times, 5/30/06, Pg A8: Increase in carbon-dioxide could mean more poison ivy.
-
Big dynamic story with BIG headings. Did Orson Wells write this stuff?
-
An experiment by Duke University indicated that as the percentage of carbon-dioxide increases in the air – plants grow faster. Tree-type plants grew 31% faster than normal but poison ivy grew 149% faster.
-
Run! Hide! Get a weed-whacker! Stock-up on Round-Up! The Poison Ivy is coming! Lookout for the Kudzu!
-
Lost in the article is the positive message that plants, which take in carbon-dioxide and give off oxygen, will do so more efficiently as carbon-dioxide levels increase.
This is something that the biosphere folks depended on for a self-contained man-plant environment and which is very important to our closed-loop system.
-
We just have to get the newspaper publishers to stop cutting down trees!
Why can’t they print their stuff on poison ivy leaves?
-
Pattern of Democrat Corruption
Roanoke Times, 5/30/06, Pg A3: Reid defends taking free boxing tickets.
Harry Reid is the DEMOCRAT leader of the Senate.
-
The article didn’t mention the value or number of these tickets – wonder why?
USA Today indicated there were many tickets on many occasions and that the ticket values were from $1,000 to $1,500 each. It appears Democrat Reid also has significant unpublished ties to the Abramoff indian money too: CLICK:
http://www.foxnews.com/printer_friendly_story/0,3566,197350,00.html-
Then there’s Democrat Congressman William Jefferson. Apparently the focus of the FBI: $90,000 cash in his freezer and looking good on a sting video.
The FBI (WITH A COURT WARRANT) raided his congressional office. What a flap! Dem. Harry Reid left his ring-side free-tickets-seat and launched a heated attack on Pres. Bush for the raid. Why be mad at Bush? It appears the issue should be with the JUDGE WHO SIGNED THE WARRANT!
Reid doesn’t have any issues when Republicans are being investigated.
-
Don’t remember seeing this in the Roanoke Times: Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) has prepared an ethics complaint against Rep. William Jefferson (D-LA) regarding his role in a conspiracy and bribery scheme as well as for misusing federal resources in the wake of hurricane Katrina. Last fall, CREW named Mr. Jefferson as one of the 13 most corrupt Members of Congress.
-
Then there’s Alan Mollohan, the top Democrat on the House ethics committee stepping down due to an ethics investigation! One would think that the ethics committee Democrats would know what the rules are wouldn’t you?
-

Why
In todays busy world we are constantly directed to do things.

From time to time one might want to pause and ask "WHY"

Let them rot!
Roanoke Times, 5/20/06, Pg Va 7: Editorial: Put away the axes and don’t enact legislation that enables the harvesting of forest timber that is damaged or has died.
-
Roanoke Times, 5/21/06, Pg Va 4: Big positive article on two guys harvesting apple trees that are slated to be destroyed for a development.
-
Our Editor of the RT is once again completely confused about his beliefs!
Does he believe dead and/or down trees should be harvested to build homes, heat homes and provide pulp for newspaper stock, or left to rot?
-
Perhaps he doesn’t have his own view of man and nature but simply wanders through the day trying to figure out and get in-step with what his left-wing associate’s views might be! What an intellectual leader!
-
Bush Trifecta
Roanoke Times, 5/26/06, Pg 1: "Bush" immigration bill clears senate 62 to 36.
-
Roanoke Times, 5/27/06, Pg A3: Little-bitty print: Senate confirms General Hayden as director of CIA vote: 78 to 15
-
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/politics/3899439.htmlWhite House aide Brett Kavanaugh won Senate confirmation as an appeals judge Friday : 57 to 36
-
WOW – after months of left-wing media focus on Bush’s being a lame-duck this happens: Senate votes for Bush Initiatives: 62 to 36 ----- 78 to 15 ------ 57 to 36
What’s going to happen when his media-poll-numbers go down into the 20’s?
-
Not only were the Democrats not going to let General Hayden be confirmed as CIA director but they were going to use his confirmation hearings as a base to impeach Bush over the terrorist surveillance program! What happened?
-
The Democrats thought that the Mexican-refugee issue that started with Bill, Hillary and Al letting eight (8) million illegals into the country during their watch would surely make George W. look bad! Would you-all like to guess again?
-
And attorney Kavanaugh who was described by left-wingers as a really bad and an incompetent nominee was confirmed to the bench by 57 to 36!
-
It appears that The Editor of the Roanoke Times and his left-wing associates are so out of touch with the American people that their views may actually be helping George W.!

Franklin County School
Roanoke Times, 5/22/06, Pg. Va 1: School systems get good grades. Salem and Franklin County are among 12 state districts cited for outperforming peers.
-
A very good article by Ms. Beth Jones of the Roanoke Times.
The schools were designated as academic outperformers by Standard & Poors School Evaluation Services. The evaluation is based on academic performance relative to the community poverty and low-income classifications.
-
Major credit for achieving the outstanding accomplishments of the Franklin County School students clearly goes to
Mr. Leonard A Gereau!-
As Superintendent of Schools Mr. Gereau built a dedicated and highly competent team of administrators, staff and faculty.
-
He established and managed high standards of conduct and achievement. He did not accept or give alibis for why students couldn’t learn. He was an outstanding leader and visionary and we all miss him and wish him well in his well earned retirement.
-
Franklin County is a much better place because he served here!
-
One might even say:
Franklin County – we do more than shine!

Oil-gas price gouging
Roanoke Times 5/23/06, Pg Bus 6: Feds downplay gas price gouging.
-
Great Roanoke Times Slant: Back on 5/4 this was a BIG issue covered with a BIG article in section A: (Roanoke Times, 5/4/06, Pg A 11: Oil: price gouging could cost $150 million under bill.)
-
But now the FTC has completed an investigation and found NO NATIONAL OR MAJOR OIL INDUSTRY GOUGING!
In select markets (just like at select gas stations in Roanoke) some folks tried to take advantage of local situations and competition quickly resolved those issues.
-
What a departure from the wild allegations of the Roanoke Times and their associates!
What a disappointment!
-
The investigation confirmed what everyone already knew – hurricanes have major impacts on oil and gas industry facilities: CLICK for an example:

Roanoke in Denial
Roanoke Times, 5/22/06, Pg 1: Victim’s brother: Gang did shooting.
-
When called to a Roanoke home, police found one person dead in the doorway and seven others with gunshot wounds inside.
Based on this evidence, Roanoke Police concluded that gun-shots were actually fired in The City of Roanoke.
-
The Police Chief said that there are no gangs in Roanoke, and if there were, it would "glorify" them to name them as such!
-
Mario Cuomo insisted, during his entire term as Governor of NY, that there was no such thing as the Mafia.
-
Denial is so convenient but not much help in solving problems!

Self-medicating
Roanoke Times, 5/22/06, Pg 1: Many are embracing an array of birth control methods that reduce or eliminate periods. Ms. Stephanie S. uses a procedure from a nurse practitioner in conflict with the FDA approved manufacturers instructions.
-
This front-page story reaches an amazing level of stupidity! And this from The RT Editor who spearheads every opportunity to jump-on those bad drug company folks who need to be regulated and sued into oblivion!
-
Here’s a girl who is avoiding a basic biological function that is programmed into her DNA for thousands of years. She decides that this is unpleasant and inconvenient and self-medicates herself with a prescription drug. If she gets an illness or cancer in the next 20 years I’m sure she will be suing the Drug Company, the FDA and The RT Editor will be hawking her cause with vigor.
-
We can fix broken bones, we can fix many illnesses and we can fix many eyesight issues, but we can’t fix STUPIDITY!

Terrorism Continues
USA Today, 5/17/06, Pg A4: Police force strikes back.
133 people including 40 police officers and prison guards killed in four days.
-
Baghdad, Iraq?
-
No – San Paulo, Brazil
-
It appears that terrorism is rather widespread.
-
The Mary Jo Bill
USA Today, 5/17/06, Pg A3: Bills to prevent mine disaster. Ted Kennedy serves on the mine safety panel and is really concerned about safety.
-
The concept of Kennedy serving on a "safety" panel is the definition of hypocrisy.
-
Lets call the legislation the Mary Jo Act with a requirement for portable oxygen tanks in every Oldsmobile and immediate notification to authorities of a life-threatening incident a key requirement.
-
Spending 5 days hiding in a motel waiting for your lawyers to get a story together would be an unacceptable activity under this Bill.
-
Bill Cosby NOT-PC
USA Today, 5/17/06, Pg 1D: Cosby gives a "Call Out". Actor gets serious at local gatherings.
-
Bill Cosby has been one of the few highly visible black persons to address the root issues involved in the black struggle to achieve the American Promise.
-
As payment for his efforts he has been vilified and attacked by persons who appear to prefer the Al Twana Sharpton and Jesse Jackson approach that it’s all about the honkeys!
-
Those folks who call Ms. Rice an Auntcha Mama and Colin Powel an Uncle Tom are clearly not happy with Mr. Cosby.
-
The key to future advancement and success are the young people!
Somehow we need to touch their hearts and minds and inspire them to participate and compete within the system.
-
Hopefully Mr. Cosby and others dating back to B.T. Washington will somehow be successful in making a very needed change in attitude among many young Americans.

Needles in a haystack
USA Today, 5/18/06, Pg A3: FBI searches Michigan farm for Hoffa.
-
The US has been searching for Bin Laden for 5 years.
The FBI has been searching for Hoffa for over 30 years.
The Israelis searched for Nazis for over 50 years.
-
Apparently it can take a long time to find someone!
-
More NY Garbage
Roanoke Times, 5/17/06, Pg Va 1: Honest or rogue? Gun dealers face fueling perceptions created by NY lawsuit.
-
It appears that NY sent pairs of felons into southern states to violate state and federal firearm laws.
-
The "legal" one would apply for and get a legal firearm by passing a federal firearms background check. He would then commit a federal and state felony by passing the gun to a "not-legal" associate.
-
Unfortunately Virginia nor federal ATF law enforcement officers were not available to arrest these felons on-the-spot.
-
The felons then returned to NY where they are part of a lawsuit accusing Virginia and other states of not controlling firearm sales!
-
What a pile of heifer-dust!
-
What a shame that these jerks were not arrested on-the-spot and jailed!
-
It appears that NY is shipping more garbage to Virginia than just in barges!
-
English Language Racist
Today Dem. Senate Leader Harry Reid, on the floor of the US Senate, stated that a proposed amendment to make English THE official language of the United States is racist!
-
This is the public official position of the Minority Dem. Senate leader that The RT Editor and his friends want to make THE leader of the US Senate.
-
How can any Democrat, Independent, or Republican voter even consider putting Senator Reid and Congressperson Pelosi in-control of the US Congress?

CIA Director
CIA Director
Roanoke Times, 5/19/06, Pg 1: Hayden (CIA director nominee) insists spying tool is legal. He said he decided to go ahead with the surveillance program in Oct 2001.
-
The article includes multiple snide comments about General Hayden, the NSA surveillance programs and includes a very unpleasant photograph of General Hayden. Apparently all this intended to cast a negative view about him.
-
The key focus of this article should be: why didn’t Bill and Hillary implement these programs years before 9/11? Instead Bill and Hillary had Jamie (the wall) Gorelick, a high-level lawyer in Clinton’s justice department, generate a set of rules to keep the FBI and CIA from collaborating on anti-terror investigations! Then the Democrats put Jamie on the 911 Investigative Panel to protect Bill and Hillary’s interests and they had Sandy Scissorhands Burger removing and destroying source documents to be used by the 911 Panel.
-
If The RT Editor and his associates are convinced that what is being done is unlawful, why don’t they hold all the folks involved "In Contempt of Congress"?
It’s time for these folks to either put-up or shut-up and stop helping our enemies!

Noise Police
Roanoke Times, 5/18/06, Pg Va 8: Editorial: Noise police on shore patrol.
-
Apparently The RT Editor views loud noise 24 hours a day as an OK thing in Franklin County, after all, it’s not in his environment.
-
It’s interesting that he ran a big positive article with great graphics on the Iron Gate town’s passage of anti-noise rules for vehicles passing through that BIG metropolis!
-
http://www.roanoke.com/columnists/kennedy/wb/30972-
Perhaps the key focus should be on all the unpleasant noise generators NOT included in the ordnance like: chain saws, mowers, vehicles and boats.
But then one can’t expect Franklin County to be as concerned with 24-hour noise pollution like a large, sophisticated and upscale community like Iron Gate.
-
Yet another example of the RT’s view of fair and balanced.

Democrat Diversity Scorecard
Roanoke Times, 5/8/06, Pg A 3: Democrats' report rates Clinton ahead of Bush on diversity -- BUT --the report does not mention Bush's record of naming minorities to TOP Cabinet Posts.
-
Of course Bill rated high on getting females into low-level jobs!
Just look at the way he stacked the intern section!
-
Why are the Democrat's bragging about this?
Why are they even reminding folks about this?
It's the womanizing STUPID!
-
Excluded from jobs
Roanoke Times, 5/8/06, Pg 1: Military man (Gen. M. Hayden) as CIA choice alarms some.
"We should not have a military person leading a civilian agency".
-
Very Interesting! After all, exmilitary men should never have some civilian jobs, like President. Having Presidents like U.S. Grant and Dwight D. Eisenhouer might create the impression that we're a military-run country so let's exclude them from consideration.
-
A candidate for President on the ballot for my first voting opportunity included a Catholic who it was stated, was beholding to the the Pope, and that certainly "alarmed" some folks.
-
Here's a concept: how about focusing on the character, ability and committment of a person as THE key criteria for consideration for a job!

More Good-bad news
Roanoke Times, 5/2/06, Pg Bus 8: April production highest in 6 months.
Small article, small print under heading manufacturing
-
This is serious:
-
* April production highest in 6 months -- PLUS:
-
* The Gross Domestic Product advanced best growth in 2-1/2 years, ending the problems associated with Katrina.
-
* April retail sales strongest in two years
-
* DOW at an all-time high!
-
What to do, what to do? Let’s spin and slant!
Don’t want folks to see stuff like this!
After all, this is a mid-term election year!
-
Prior Items: lots of good-bad news the liberal media doesn’t want to highlight:

Defense Spending
Roanoke Times, 4/27/06, Pg A 3: Very-small print under Budget: Top general: Defense better than plastic Santas. Gen. Schoomaker said that defense budget for year is less than we-all spent on Christmas decorations last year. Budget is 3.9% of overall economy, during WWII it was (10X) ten times higher at 38%.
-
Wow! The RT Editor loves to give some generals big front page coverage! I wonder why this was in tiny print on bottom of page A 3? Perhaps it doesn’t fit into his left-wing liberal anti-Bush agenda!
-
So much for fair and balanced!
-
Social Security funding sinking
Roanoke Times, 5/2/06, Pg A 4: State of Social Security, Medicare worsens. Trustees of both programs made a plaintive plea Monday for political leaders not to wait to act to keep the Medicare and Social Security trust funds solvent.
-
No – that’s not it! The plaintive plea is to all those Democrats who celebrated, during the last State of the Union address, that they had boycotted participating in addressing this issue.
-
That TV-video footage will be replayed many times in coming years so that there will be no doubt in anyone’s mind who chose to play politics with these vital programs.
-
All the left-wing slant and spin will not erase that disgusting spectacle!

Refugee Demonstrations
Roanoke Times, 5/2/06, Pg 1: Hispanics in Roanoke take part in protest by immigrants.
-
No, that’s not it! Illegal-Immigrant is an oxymoron! If you’re NOT a legal-immigrant you’re a refugee.
-
In this case these are mostly Mexican refugees escaping from a country that has failed to provide their social, educational, health, economic, dietary and political needs. It is a country that defines refugees within its own borders as felons and puts them in jail!
-
I know what immigrants are. My parents and aunts and uncles were all immigrants. They came through Ellis Island and were legally processed as immigrants. They all strived diligently to become naturalized citizens as soon as possible. They worked and studied. They did not demonstrate for status and rewards not provided for by law.
-
Most of the Mexican-refugees appear to be good hardworking people. But their country and our country have failed them and us. Their country through corruption and stupidity and our country through malfeasance of controlling our borders and establishing a proper process for those authorized to be here.
-
Our first priority now is to secure (seal-off) the borders!
The second priority is to establish a reasonable and prudent process to handle the refugees who are here. Apparently Pres. Bush’s proposal is acceptable to a wide range of people.
-
Democracy doesn't end violence
Roanoke Times, 4/28/06, Pg A 8: Iraq’s problems don’t end with democracy.
-
How true! After 180 years (1776 to 1956+) we (US) still had our terrorists the KKK!
-
Iran and Starwars
Roanoke Times, 5/3/06, Pg A 10: Iran vows to hit Israel if US attacks.
-
They have already declared that their national policy is the "eradication" of Israel!
-
So, what about Starwars and antiballistic missles (ABM’s)? The left-wing folks have been lamenting these weapons for over 20 years. What’s their current outlook?
-
It was interesting that during the Gulf Wars the US setup lots of anti-missile units in Israel. I guess we wouldn’t have had them if we listened to the lefties!
-
Now that Iran and North Korea are into long-range missiles and nuclear weapons perhaps "we" (the potential targets) should be doing more not less on ABM stuff.

Oil & Gasoline Supplies
Roanoke Times, 5/4/06, Pg A 11: Oil: price gouging could cost $150 million under bill.
-
Because gasoline is a mobile and transportable and internationally traded commodity it is usually easy to determine price fixing. There have been numerous past congressional investigations of gasoline prices and there have been very few cases of illegal activity at a national level.
-
A current major gasoline supply impact (not noted in the article) is undoing the Sierra-Club/EPA MTBE mess. (click for prior item)
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2005/04/mtbe.html-
The really interesting part of the story is that the House, AGAIN, refused to address building additional refineries. Basically our refineries are close to capacity, therefore, additional crude oil is of limited help. To increase supply we must import finished-refined-gasoline. What a joy!
-
The quote by Dem.-Va. Rick Boucher has to be a misprint! He cannot possibly be that dull! The delay in permitting (building) new refineries (we haven’t built a new one in over 25 years) is that oil companies are making too much profit!
Conclusion: So, let’s not build more refineries!
And this is a guy who claims to represent the little-guy who is being the most impacted by higher (not high compared to any European country) energy prices.
-
Isn’t it interesting that despite the news headlines, the little-guy is still buying stuff: like Wal-Mart just had another record quarter, big SUV’s and pickup trucks are selling as fast as ever, beer sales are great, and lottery tickets are flying out the 7-11 stores!
-
Perhaps what we really need to do is implement Al Gore’s proposal to add another 50 cent tax onto the price of gasoline!

-
6,000 NATO troops move into south-Afghanistan.

-
Afghans concerned that Americans are leaving.

Those Poor Democrats
Roanoke Times, 5/7/06, Parade, Pg 12: Who's the richest in Congress?
-
Darn those rich fat-cat Republicans. Thank goodness we have regular workingmen Democrats in Congress to represent us!
-
Hello! The (4) four richest Congressmen are Democrats! How can that be?
-
1. John "Heinz" Kerry (will Nichole Smith be next?)
2. Jay "Oily" Rockefeller (fits in well with West Va folks?)
3. Herb "Walmart-Not" Kohl (only rich folks shop in his stores?)
4. Jane "Rich Hubby" Harman (why make money when you can marry it?)

But the heck with the facts, let's keep up the rich-Republican campaign!
