The Cost Of Egg’s And All Corn-based Things

Roanoke Times, 6-28-2015, Pg 1, 5: Egg prices on rise after flu outbreak. Consumers and restaurants are grappling with the increase in costs.

Two-thirds Pg Bus 1 and all of Pg 5 – lots of nice chicken pictures including idyllic pictures of a family with a basket of eggs – hardly representative of the US egg industry that produces 8 BILLION eggs per month!

This entire article on eggs and cost of eggs and not one word about the major cause of expensive eggs, chickens, turkeys, ham, beef, cereals, milk products and all the other foods that depend on the cost and availability of CORN!

What’s with the CORN? We’re burning massive amounts of corn in our cars (ObamaGas). It’s called ethanol, it’s made from corn, and it has raised the price of corn and therefore almost all our food costs. Ask any food shopper: what has happened to the cost of food over the past ten years?

The Roanoke Times isn’t about to shed any negative light on ObamaGas! After all jacking-up the price of food is a big problem for middle-class and poor people who’s food budget is a major part of their budget. These are the very folks Obama claims he stays up nights worrying about.

Off-shore poor people are also impacted due to higher prices of our corn and food exports.
Obama’s latest obscenity: he want’s to increase the “mandated” amount of ethanol in gasoline from 10% to 15%.
For English majors – that’s a 50% increase in corn being burned in our cars.

Why Hasn’t Virginia Expanded Medicaid?

Roanoke Times, 6-23-2015, Pg 4: Va. did not expand Medicaid; saw a minimal decline in uninsured from 2013 to 2014.

ObamaCare made a negligible change in the uninsured in Virginia.

Not one word or number of what Medicaid costs now no less what massive expansion would cost nor the tax increases to pay for that or the impacts to taxpayers or the economy.

Why doesn’t Virginia just expand Medicaid? Just do it!

1 Over the last 5-7 years the current Medicaid program has grown from 13% of the state budget to 22%, thus crowding out spending on other core services such as K-12, higher education, public safety, and other health and human services.

2 In the 2014-2016 biennium budget Virginia had to put up $762 Million additional dollars for the current Medicaid program, that is $386 Million per year. In other words current Medicaid is growing due to greater utilization and costs. This trend to take a larger and larger share cannot be continued without reducing or holding steady other services unless revenue increases under the current tax structure, or taxes are raised.

National Bankruptcies: Neither A Borrower Nor A Lender Be

Clearly Polonius was on to something, however, modern governments and people have become hooked on debt as the method of living today with tomorrow’s stuff! Saving-up to buy things is totally passé, nobody does that anymore.
However, when you buy with debt you must pay for both the item or service itself and the rent on the borrowed money, "Aye, there's the rub" from Hamlet's soliloquy.

Hot Good Old Days In Roanoke

Some say it's the result of man-made CO2 and global warming AGW

The record says that of the 10 hottest June days "on record since 1912" that:
7 occurred before the current CO2 build-up starting in 1950

From 2005 through 2014 over 203 Americans have been killed by pit bulls.
Over 62% of people killed by dogs are killed by pit bulls.

At a time of great pain and suffering and soul-searching by the American People, Obama “The Uniter” once again stoops down into the “hood” to use terminology that he knows full-well triggers hostile and negative reactions and behaviors.

In addition, Obama states that "we" are racist through our DNA!
Apparently, that means we can't help it -- we-all are also victims!
However, the majority of Americans are immigrants that came here after The War Between The States -- how can racism be in our DNA?

Virginia Lutherans -- Charleston In Our Prayers

This morning I read the letter from Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton and it flat took my breath away. The 21-year-old shooter was an ELCA member. Two of the nine shot and killed by him were graduates of our Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary.

In the prejudice for color of skin one of our own killed nine of our own. In evil lies about "all of them", a 21-year-old Lutheran shot and killed two graduates of our very own seminary.

We sing, "Red and yellow, black and white, all are precious in His sight. Jesus loves the little children of the world."

We are joined to Emmanuel AME congregation as we have been all along in the eyes of our Lord. Up to now we didn't even know it.

I ask every one of us to pray for these nine sisters and brothers of ours. I ask that we pray for their families as one of us who have violently lost those most precious to them..... by one of us.

I ask for a long moment of silence in our prayers of the church this Sunday for us to contemplate that this young man is from our Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Then let us pray for him and his family.

I recall Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s words that we teach our children and ourselves to recognize another by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

Sisters and brothers, we have work to do within our church.

The All-Inclusive Outreach Team of the VA Synod has provided a resource that includes suggestions of how to talk about the events in Charleston during our worship services.

With so much sadness I will lift all of you up in my prayers this Sunday.

The Charleston Church Massacre

Roanoke Times, 6-21-2015, Pg 9: Suspect (Dylann Roof) lays out racism in manifesto.

Crimes like this defy the words and expressions of ordinary people.
Wonderful people lost to their families and communities by a mentally ill assailant.
Religious people try to cope with the shock and disbelief through their faith, others are left to try to reconcile the irreconcilable.
-
One cannot explain the VT massacre, the Sandy Hook elementary school massacre, Washington Navy Yard, Fort Hood, Killeen, Texas, the German co-pilot and the shocking acts of a Norwegian Farmer killing 69 fine young people at a political retreat.
-
Clearly there are, and have always been, very disturbed people in society. Unfortunately, their associates do not act on statements that forebode violent acts and it’s also clear that psychiatry is far more an art than a science and well intentioned privacy laws keep vital information locked up and useless.
-
It appears that Dylan Roof and the Oklahoma bomber have much in common. Their final sick acts were based on perceived transgressions against others, not themselves.
This makes them equivalent to lone-wolf domestic terrorists that are very difficult to detect before they commit their vile acts.
-
Unfortunately, there are many in the media who are casting dispersions relative to gun-control and political entities.
If only solutions were as simple as sound-bites.

Virginia AG Mark Herring has intervened in the projected closing of All-girls Sweet Briar College. His intervention includes unilaterally negating the specific instructions in donor’s endowments. Apparently, no problem there – these old rich gals are long dead and who cares for what specific purposes they left their money!

Sweet Briar had 530 students (130 students per grade-level). Herring is “making available” $16 million of “restricted endowment money” for college operating expenses. That’s $30,000 per student plus $40,000 tuition per student for $70,000 per student for next year. Would you invest in this business plan? What’s the plan for the following years?

We now have a new chapter in citizen’s interaction with police:

If stopped by police for a traffic issue –just curse the officer and drive away.

If stopped by a game warden for a boating, fishing or hunting issue – just curse the warden and leave.

If stopped by the TSA for security checks at the airport – just curse the agents and walk right through.
-
If approached by the municipal building inspector for code violations on your property – just curse him and sic the dog on him.

If approached by school authorities for behavior issues – just curse the oppressors and walk right out the door!

There are many examples in which the enforcement officers of government directly confront people in the conduct of their duties. Before this ground-breaking finding by Dave Chapman, citizens had a duty to comply with reasonable requests by enforcement officers and direct confrontations with them was deemed a crime in itself.

TeaParty Primary-Elections Strategy Revealed

How to negate and manipulate the will of the majority of the voters

The Jim McKelvey interview article documents the “TeaParty Primary-Elections Strategy” clearly describing the process of selecting and supporting candidates with limited or no elected public service that can run and win in very limited turnout primaries on rhetoric-platforms unencumbered by any public record or accomplishments.

The focus of these campaigns are often based on local narrow wedge issues, dissatisfaction and hostility toward government and issues that in many cases are outside the scope of the elected position’s action or control. Examples of these issues include federal control of pipelines, power dams, and court established laws that circumvent state and local laws and public positions.

These examples clearly demonstrate that it’s not about governance, it’s not about Conservatism, it’s all about power and control and ideology by the self-Appointed and self-Anointed TeaParty Leadership.

In the “Fed Up? Interview” Jim McKelvey opines that he would’ve been the 5th District Republican Congressman except for Robert Hurt’s money. Not clear what that means since Jim McKelvey is a multi-millionaire land developer and Robert Hurt was a country lawyer from the town of Chatham.

The “TeaParty Primary-Elections Strategy” was used at the state level at the Roanoke Republican US-Senate Nominating Convention in which the TeaParty Leadership ran Shak Hill against Ed Gillespie. Gillespie’s campaign was seriously damaged by vicious attacks by some TeaParty Leaders.

One may realistically assume that this same Strategy will be used against Conservative Republican Congressman Robert Hurt next year. That would explain the TeaParty’s fierce ongoing fight to control the 5^th District Republican Committee and its subsequent control of the election venue and rules.
TeaParty control of the 2012 RPV State Convention resulted in the biggest Virginia Republican defeat in history.

It’s sad that any political entity would base their political strategy on dominating low-turn-out primaries in which less than 10% of the registered voters participate! In many cases, those targeted for political-annihilation were voted into office by significant majorities by their constituents in the prior general election.

The current Franklin Co. Gills Creek Primary for Supervisor didn’t work out for the “TeaParty Primary-Elections Strategy” because too many voters turned-out to express their support for their incumbent.

“Republicans Who Want to Govern – The one thread that ties most of the races together from yesterday is that when paired against Tea Party or other “grassroots” candidates with no records, Republicans who have tried to govern, have a record and experience, or who took tough votes that could have landed them in hot water came out okay this time around. The Speaker survived despite shepherding Governor McDonnell’s historic transportation plan through the House and others who opposed that plan (like Mark Berg) were defeated. At least in this primary, the voters chose those who were willing to govern and make tough choices over those who only brought criticism and talking points to the table.”
