Why wasn’t General John Eisenhower, as the son and representative for his father General and Republican President Dwight D. Eisenhower, the focal point for each and every and all recognitions for this major event?

It was Republican President Eisenhower who acted on behalf of the black students being barred from entry to the High School, and thereby acted for all black Americans. Eisenhower was instrumental in appointing a Supreme Court Chief Judge who brought integration to the Brown vs Board of Education decision. Eisenhower then carried out the Supreme Court order that the Little Rock High School was required to admit black students.

Eisenhower nationalized the Arkansas Guard and commanded and confined them to barracks (the military equivalent of house arrest). He then sent in federal marshals and the 101st Airborne Division to establish marshal law and carry out the Court’s order.
Prior to this Eisenhower had desegregated the District of Columbia, the armed forces and all military dependent schools.

Fort Hood killer was devout Muslim who suffered inner conflict
His name appears above radical internet postings praising Islamic suicide bombers — something that the FBI was alerted to six months ago.
He had frequent arguments with soldiers at Fort Hood because of his declarations that fellow Muslims “should stand up and fight against the aggressor”, and his vocal opposition to US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
He even appeared to celebrate the shooting dead of a soldier at an army recruiting centre in Arkansas in June, carried out by a Muslim convert. He said at the time that Muslims should strap on suicide bombs and detonate them in Times Square.
These were the extraordinarily provocative statements and actions of the army psychiatrist Major Nidal Malik Hasan in the months before his deadly shootings at Fort Hood — a massacre that began with him shouting “God is Great” in Arabic.
The apparently clear signs of Hasan’s growing anti-Americanism prompted questions and anger yesterday over why he was never investigated — an action that could have prevented the tragedy at the Texas Army base on Thursday.

The trial, which is expected to take place this summer, could bring the death penalty for Sgt. Hasan Akbar, 32. Akbar faces two counts of premeditated murder and three counts of attempted murder for the attack on 101st Airborne Division soldiers at Camp Pennsylvania in Kuwait on March 23, 2003, during the early days of the Iraq war.

Now, after 60-years (1963 to 2023) of legal and administrative and financial efforts to bypass the 14th Amendment and help account for discrimination and provide some level of equality-restitution, the SCOTUS has decided that the US should move forward without the use of race as a special factor in schooling; and perhaps that will be extended soon to all forms of public and private decision making and access.

Apparently The SCOTUS concluded that the time was right to end ‘racial-preferences’ and defer to the 14th Amendment.
Clearly many others will not agree or accept this decision and its outcomes.
It appears that many young black students have needed a ‘boost’ to get into the college of their choice; not clear how that was ‘managed’ going forward after ‘getting in’.
Is that because of ‘systemic racism’ or other factors such as lack of good intercity schools, dysfunctional family homes, community attitudes, peer pressures and violent neighborhoods?

Perhaps this decision will increase the pressure to fix the inner-city problems that plague our black youths and communities. Perhaps voting into office those people who are ready, willing and able to bring law and order to the streets and establish a nurturing, academic and safe environment in the schools and a positive change to the family units.
It’s fair to observe that Democrats have long ruled over these communities and it’s time for them to stop the race-baiting and coddling and start leading.
All this is painfully clear right here in River City Roanoke.
